Depends on the dog and child. I know a 3 year old who is smarter then a lot of dogs, yet I know another 3 year old who BOTH my dogs are more intelligent. My dog's know how to open doors, get things from small spaces, and also can find things hidden under cups, where as the 3 year old doesn't as his mum is lazy and has never taught him things.

Well, that depends upon the dog and the baby, of course. My babies were born more intelligent then the collie dog I had as a child, whom only lived for less than 2 years on account of his lack of intelligence and propensity to do stupid things...

Counter that against my father-in-law's professionally trained black lab. I think he might be smarter than any human I ever met, including myself. lol
