Do I Still Need A Whooping Cough Vaccine?

I am currently 20yrs old. about 2 years ago I had whooping cough and was never treated for it. (they figured out the vaccine wears off after it was too late to intervene in my whooping cough) Do I still need to get a whooping cough vaccine? Is there any chance that I may get the virus again or am i safe now that I've already had it?

Natural immunities often last forever (as opposed to immunity supplied by vaccinations, which have been shown to rise for a certain amount of time, plateau, and then decrease).

According to a research paper found here:

    http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/333/7560/174?v...

neither infection nor immunization results in lifelong immunity to whooping cough, although they do not cite any particular studies to support this claim.

However, there is a pertussis titer available. This is a test that measures the presence and amount of antibodies in blood. This test can confirm whether you were, in fact, exposed to pertussis and if you are immune. You can check with your doctor to get a referral for the titer.
