I'm flying from Newark to Paris and I'm scared as crap, any reassuring comments?

I hate flying, and I am flying from the crappiest airport in the US to the crappiest airport in Europe.

You're going to Paris. Isn't that a reassuring comment?

Why does it matter what the airports are like? As long as they get you there. It's about a 6 to 7 hour flight tho. And probably a red eye, no? Cause it doesn't matter how crappy the airport, the planes are the same. And since my friends hubby flys for American Airlines, I can tell you that the Paris flights are coveted and therefore have the more experienced pilots.

You're more likely to be attacked by a terrorist than to go down in a plane. Really. It's safer for you to be on those planes than to drive to the airport.

So, I would concentrate on how bored you are for that long. After about 4 hours, the seats seem to be closing in you. Make sure you bring the following:

    * at least one bottle of water, juice or soda to your preference. You don't wanna be at the mercy of the stewardesses for that long and you will get dehydrated if you don't drink cause the dry air sucks it out of ya.

*snacks...you'll get fed at least once, probably twice and get a snack in-between, but if you get hungry otherwise it could be a while before you can get anything from them...there's lots of peeps on the plane...

*some kind of comfortable neck pillow in case you actually want to sleep...some benedryl to help you do so is good too

*SOMETHING(s) to read, play or do when the movie doesn't wanna play or you've seen it and hate it...

*earplugs or Ipod to overcome the snores all around you if you're not sleeping

*some kind of implements for brushing your teeth and/or some body mist or spray in an inoffensive scent...you'd be surprised how funky you feel after that long in a plane...

Well, if you hate flying, as do I,

you probably should prepare yourself with things to help you forget that you are on a crap plane.

Me, I would suggest bringing an ipod, laptop with a couple movies, a book, a DS, or anything that you would normally have to kill time.

If you get sick, like air sick or motion sick (what ever they call it) I don't know the exact name, but I do know there is medicine that you can take.

Oh, and depending on what type of class you're flying, food can be an issue. I don't know about business class or 1st class, but on the planes I've flown on- the food ALWAYS sucked. Sure, they might have peanuts or coke or sprite, but bring a snack at least. It could prove to be useful.

Finally, with all the Swine Flue scare thing going around, it might be a good idea to try and wash your hands as much as possible, as well as trying to stay away from sick people.

Anyway, I hope that helped. :D

The first line - strikes an echo - is there a song which begins 'The last time I saw Paris'? but no matter, since if there is then this gives the line that extra sense of recognition. ancestral home/roots, instead of town - using town diminishes Paris (majestic? instead of mighty) will I ever see Paris again? ----sorry, it's your poem, tell me to go away! - don't know who Isabella is but I'm sure she will be delighted to receive your tribute.

  • CDG is actually a very good airport.

Take some sleeping pills if you need them; otherwise, bring a book, your mp3 player, and relax.

You're far safer flying than any other form of transport.

    Nope

I don't want to suck away the joy you get from being this miserable.

It is the people you are traveling with who need the reassurance

I think it's a normal, nice flight. Maybe you should take a tranquilizer that would help you fall asleep and then you'll be rested when you arrive in Paris.
