Garmin Edge 605 cycle computers?

I'm looking at buying one of these as they look really good, I'm a little confused though as to some of the features as the website isn't very clear. Anyone that has one or in the know can help me out? The website says that the device monitors your speed but then on the specs sheet is says "speed sensor: no" so my question is does it have a speed readout or not? do I need to buy an extra piece of equipment to use this feature? I have seen accessories listed which include a speed sensor. Also how is the mapping? I live in the UK, it says it has a base map but doesn't elaborate on what this is, I see you can buy extra maps but considering the price tag I don't want to have to buy extra software on top.

Thanks for any help.

No you do not need to buy anything extra for it to measure your speed, it does this by satellite and that reciever in the unit is very sensitive to within 1/2kph or less. As far as the basemap goes I do not know what they did in the UK but here in the US you can get different maps for different regions for various sports such as watercraft and such with navigation charts and mountain biking trails to ski routes and the like and I cant imagine that they did any different over there. I use the 705 which has a bit more then the 605 and so to answer your question, i would say that yes you may want to purchase additional maps at some point. You will have to update it each year anyway....! If this is too much then back off and downgrade to the 305 if you have that one over there? This is great technology and the better you get the more its gonna cost in all aspects.
