my husky air compressor won't build pressure?

I have a 12 gal Husky air compressor that i bought from a friend still fairly new. it has two pressure gauges, one for the tank and one for the hose. the hose gauge is hooked to a relief valve. well the relief valve got stripped out and wouldn't stay opened so i took it off and hooked the hose to the tank pressure. just bypassed the hose valve pretty much and now it won't build and pressure. there's no leaks but the tank relief hose it blowing hard and it seems like all the pressure is going right out of it. it gets really hot too. anyone have any pointers. i don't have a manual and couldn't find one online so if anyone knows where i could find it let me know thanks.

Update:

i replaced the parts with expensive home depot husky parts and it's still not building pressure. still blowing air out of the tank hose. i guess i need a new tank valve thanks though

A couple of thing could cause this, one is a worn piston/cylinder, another is a leaking Relief valve(which you should hear), a bad regulator valve, or the check valve where the inlet line enters the tank. If the compressor runs and doesn't shut off but builds no pressure I would look at the check valve in the inlet to the tank.

The valve holds the pressure into the tank. The valve is also hooked up to the switch that tells the motor to shut off.

You could also have a bad pressure switch and need to replace it.

unless you put a new valve back on the compressor it is going to burn the motor up.
