What do you think of Michele Obama's $540 sneakers?

They look like Converse Chuck Taylor's. $540 for gym shoes in a recession shows that the Obama's have no clue what normal americans are going through. Who in their right mind would spend that much on shoes? Imelda Marcos would have and her and her husband were overthrown in the Philippines.

Hello!!! Sarah Palin was calling herself a "Walmart Mom" and pretending to be just plain folk and then spent 150k of other people's money on clothes that prompted a McCain staffer to call the Palins "Wasilla Hillbillies looting Nordstroms from coast to coast...."

Michelle on the other hand didn't do that I am just plain folks BS. Although Michelle came from humble beginnings she excelled and became a Princeton and Harvard Law graduate and a well-paid professional. She can afford the sneakers. Besides, McCain's people were the ones that were pissed off. :)

Edited to add: The Obamas made over $2 million last year mostly from President Obama's royalties for his 2 books and can afford to spend their money on nice stuff if they want. They also gave about $175,000 to charities. You don't have a clue do you ? :)

As a conservative, I don't care how much she spends on shoes. However, her buying $540 sneakers shows she is out of touch with how most Americans live. It is the same (although on a smaller scale) as McCain not knowing how many condos his wife owned as investment properties.

Colleen: Michelle Obama did claim to be "plain folks" when she talked in town hall meetings about having to balance the family budget just like everyone else. It didn't get as much press as Palin but she still tried to act the part.

I think she can spend her own money any way she wants.

Sarah Palin thinks she can spend OTHER PEOPLE'S money any way she wants.

Can you not see the difference? How about this: $540 DOES NOT compare to $160,000. Are you five years old?

PLUS: buying those shoes supported sales people, manufacturers, and factory workers. Hoarding money during a recession only makes the recession last longer.

What’s the relevance? She has her own money (it was not tax payer money that bought her shoes). Why is this a problem?

I'm wondering how many trillions her husband is spending while the media keeps us occupied with her shoes. That's about all I'm thinking. Lib hypocrisy is not new.
