why is a thief protected by the"Privacy Act " law ?

the thief was caught on camera in a doctor's office stealing my wallet...after 2 weeks of calling police to check on the status of the police report and trying to contact the manager of the doctor's office I finally got the final answer...we can't do anything about it because the doctor's office can't release the name of the patient that stole your wallet, she is protected under the "Privacy Act"...do you think that this is true, that even if the patient commits a crime in the doctor's office their identity is protected?

    No, it's not true.

The 'privacy law' they are talking about is called "HIPPA", and it is intended to protect the confidentiality of medical records. It does NOT protect the release of the thief's identity to the police.

"The person you see taking the wallet in this video is called Jane Smith" is completely legal.

"The person you see taking the wallet in this video is called Jane Smith, who was in our office to see Dr Bob about her herpes" would be a HIPPA violation.

To me, each and all of the shows that are made at present are crap, inspite of the form (certainty, comedy, and so on.) - all trash. there is no longer something like the coolest ol' classic sitcoms and drama shows like Baretta, Starsky and Hutch, Columbo, Kojak, and so on. i'm going to take them over at present's shows any day of the week!
