How Much do you drink per week, is this normal?

Hi....

I don't even know if i should be posting this but basically i need advice on this...

Personally i don't see it as a problem but other family members do.

Here Goes,

My mother has a bottle of white wine three nights per week.

Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. She does not depend on alcohol in any way but enjoys her wine when she drinks it.

She's not angry or agressive when drinking or does not get "drunk".

She does not drink untill 7.30pm and usually finishes the bottle by 11pm...

There are 5 family members living at home, none of them consume alcohol except myself and my mother.

I only have a bottle of wine on a saturday night....

Is this a normal amount to drink or are the non drinkers wrong about my mother?

Maybe i'm wrong and she is drinking too much?

Any advice would be appreciated, i need to know so i could support her.... if there is a problem?

Thanks

You are both way better than me. I consume a bottle of wine along with some crown and coke, but it doesn't faze me in the least. If she is obviously able to control herself and only drinking on those days, then she doesn't have a problem per say. And in that time frame, she is fine. Wine is actually good for you. Look it up, it has some great health benefits.

A bottle of wine contains 10 units of alcohol. According to UK government health standards, a female is only supposed to consume 14 units a week. That's equivalent to 1 and a half bottles a week as opposed to 3. However, I think the government regulations here are unrealistic as most people drink more than that.

From what you say, it appears your mum is pacing herself when drinking. She doesn't drink to get drunk but likes to relax with a bottle of wine a few nights a week. There's nothing wrong with that.

In summary, there is absolutely nothing to be worried about.

Drinking a whole bottle at a time is more than a recommended limit, but if it doesn't affect her ability to work the following day, I see no harm in having that much.

I liked about half a bottle of red 2-3 times a week, and I think that is acceptable. Others will have a couple of glasses with their dinner.

I drink red wine and with the large glasses that are used a bottle is like two glasses of wine. See it is all relative. It doesn't sound like a problem

I would say it's not a problem. She is not harming anyone by doing this...she drinks at home which is much safer than say if she went to a bar three times a week and drank that much. I think your mother is fine and doesn't sound like she has a rpoblem to me. Tell the fam to leave her alone.

That is reasonable controlled drinking. Drinking beer would be a better idea. The fact that you are not drinking every night, and are not drinking during the day suggests that you do not have a problem.

Your family members just dont agree with you guys I guess because there is nothing wrong. You guys are drinking responsibly sounds like.

And I too drink wayy more than that.

Sounds quite fine and normal to me.

I think that they are wrong and should leave her alone.

It sounds like she drinks because she enjoys it, not because she "needs" it.
