Going To Any Blues Fests?
The summer festival season will soon be upon us. Is anyone planning on attending any blues festivals? If you plan on attending the Chicago Fest ( June 12-14) the first beer is on me (unless Budweiser has exclusive rights this year-then you're on your own and the first post fest beer is on me). If anyone is going to be in Chicago let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks

I'm hoping to attend the Choctaw Indian Fair again this year. Last summer I saw Mato Nanji of Indigenous and this year I am hoping the Choctaw Nation's talent board is able to bring Six Nations bluesman Derek Miller from Canada.
Derek's got a fused Johnny Winter/Rory Gallagher sound and despite being Canadian his sound is electrified delta.
There may be another Robert Johnson fest down in Crystal Spring this summer. Last summer I saw Honeyboy Edwards.
It's great to live in a state where the blues is all around you and everyone wants to come play here.
If I head up I-55, I'll bring my own Community Dark Roast coffee. I don't drink and I don't trust coffee from out of town. Thanks for the invite!

I'd love to go to several fests; it all depends on timing and location. The Long Beach Blues Fest took a nosedive years ago, but I've been feeling nostalgic about it recently. The San Francisco Bay Blues Fest is in a beautiful setting overlooking the bay and generally has more real blues these days than the Long Beach show. If I'm in Portland, OR on July 4th, which is a possibility, I'll definitely go to the Waterfront Blues Fest-located on the Willamette river in the heart of downtown. Wish I could get to Chicago and take you up on your offer. I'm with you on Bud-horrid stuff. I don't mind a long neck Coors in a roadhouse, but Bud is just an abomination.
By way of reciprocation, I think you ought to come west for the Strawberry Music Festival in Yosemite. I've got all the camping gear and we can fill the cooler with real beer ;)

I live in Chicago and the fest is one day shorter and fairly weak line upthis year. More likely to hit the local clubs than the fest.
However June 19-20 is Blues on the Fox. Saturday June 20 the headliners are Sugar Blue, Watermelon Slim, and Los Lobos. And it's free.

If I can get off work I'm heading to ChiTown ... I was on the booking committee for the FIRST Chicago Blues Fest in 1984 ... those were the days! And I can still usually find my way backstage to the green room ... "friends in the business," ya know.

That must be the one to go to. I take it you don't want to put money into anheizer bush's pockets. I never do either.
Thanks for the notice and offer for help.
Pleasure Island Seafood Blues Jazz and Festival, I usually go to. I am trying to remember the last time I saw a bluesperson for the main act. Last October, rain was a mess. I didn't go see Johnny and Edgar Winter,
Previous years. Dave Mason,
years Atlanta Rhythm Section
I usually go.

Hmm.... for the first time in awhile I won't be working this summer. Bad in some ways, good in others: I might take you up on it.
But I don't drink Budweiser anyway.
