belly button piercings?

I'm 19, I'm in college. I like the look of belly button rings, but never even tried to get one because my folks would flip. Now I have a bit more freedom so I'd like to hear what you think?

when is the best time to get one? how long does it take to heal? what are some problems you've had? How easy is it to keep it clean while it's healing? did you regret getting it afterward?

and please don't tell me they look trashy or whatever. I haven't completely made up my mind to get one anyway.

I got mine about a year ago and love it. It took about 6 months to heal but some people told me it actually takes a full year to completely heal though. I think, its been so long I can't remember LOL. Make sure you use a salt spray on it and you can get those where you get the piercing done and you can keep Bacitracin on it to keep it from getting infected . Also when you shower, be sure to let the water spray you directly there to wash away any dirt that gets inside your belly button. But make sure you go to a clean place to get it done, for example: make sure the person doing it shows you everything they will use to pierce you because all their equipment should be sterilized and the needle should be new and not opened before you get there. I got mine done at a tattoo shop and he showed me everything down to the sterilization machine. Be sure to wear low or loose rise jeans/ and clothing until it heals and be careful with tight or lacy things as it will get caught in the bar and pull on it. The main thing is keep it clean and it will heal just fine but it may hurt and be red for a good while though. I hope this helps you out except I don't know what to tell you about when to get it done. I included a few sites you can check out to help you on tips and such.

I had mine done when i was 16. I had it for about 2 years now it takes ages to fully heal about 6 months to 1 year but you can still change the bar after 3 months. It's so easy just use cotton wool and salt water twice a day. No i don't regret havin mine done :) if you want have it done go for it your 19 and your parents won' be able to see it anyway if it's under your top x
