HELP!!opinion and TRUE FEELING on taking krav maga, NO BAISED PLZ?
ok, heres the deal... ive been doing martial arts since i was 10 (im 14 now) from filipino martial arts, to kung fu, to muay thai, but discontinued due to location issues... a couple of months ago, i found a place that teaches krav maga and have been taking it ever since ( i really like it by the way).
through the months, ive been reading all over the internet on people's thoughts on krav, and everyone is saying "muay thai is better" or "bjj is better" or "krav is for *******" etc.
my question is, should i just ignore them, and stick with krav maga? should i feel lucky and honored to be even taking it?or should i start looking for gyms that do bjj, muay thai, boxing, etc.
what is UR TRUE opinion on krav maga??
Thank you..

I would say that if you enjoy what you are doing then forget what everyone else is saying. My true opinion is that it is a great workout, and has been battle tested. Hey... Israel is still there so it must work.
You also have to look at who is giving you their opinions. Everyone is biased about their own art forms. They can not help it because that is all that they know. It is their frame of reference and realize that all martial arts have their good and bad sides.
Like you I have studied many different art forms. I have been training since I was 12 and that was over 20+ years ago. I have tried BJJ and found it fantastic for 1:1 combat but useless when you are facing a group. Thai boxing has it's advantages as does every art form but most training is focused on 1:1 combat since you will only face 1 person in the ring. Krav Maga is the only form that I have studied in recent years where you are actively taught to face multiple aggressors and be able to walk away.
Make up your own mind based on your experience and don't worry what everyone else says. Remember that opinions are like noses and everyone has one. But unlike noses everyone likes to share opinions.

I have never taken it myself, but have studied Muay Thai Kenpo and Judo and from my understanding Krav Maga is a very effective system. It is very straight and to the point, take no prisoners approach. If you like it and it works for you and your interests then thats all the info you need. I think you will find as you continue on that it is a very practical style and relevant to todays fighting. Good luck

okay kid, here is the one answer to trump all this style VS style issues.
What gives you the best fighting skill is practice.
if your instructor trains you with aliveness which means you often spar and pressure test what you learn you will become a good fighter.
it also depends on your instructor and his expertise in the field.
the reason why BJJ or muay thai is often recommended is because there training involves sparring so they learn practical fighting skills, while krav maga might teach you 'deadly' moves which are too 'deadly' to practice and end being BS.
i cannot tell you whether your club is good or not since i never been there, but to learn actual fighting skill you need to PRACTICE AND SPAR what you learn.
a well trained krav maga could beat a poorly trained muay thai guy, and a better trained karate guy can beat a well trained krav maga guy.
its not style but the level of practice and training you do.
thats it.

krav maga is a mixed martial art style for street fighting and self defense, ignore the people who thing their style is the best and blah blah blah. in all reality NO TRADITIONAL style is best, krav maga borrows techniques from many different styles, aikido, bjj, muay thai, karate ect ect ect. they are pissed because their style has been proven ineffective on the street. yeah sure training in karate, or tae kwon do will help you win a fight against a non trained opponent but what happens when you fight a wrestler, a boxer, a street fighter, or a jiu jitsu fighter? the same thing that happened in the first UFC's the one styled opponents were taken down and choked out. stick with krav maga.

I hope this helps you. There is no best style. There is no perfect style just like there is no perfect church. They all have the strengths and weakness. There will always be someone better than you. It will not be based upon what system they have studied. No style traditional or non-traditional has been proved to be ineffective.
Personally I will not be in a krav maga school. But that does not mean that you shouldn't. If you enjoy the class and you are learning you should continue with your training. Most people will be more apt to dedicate themselves to something that they enjoy.

My true opinion is stick with what you really like and don't worry about what other's say. If you like krav maga, stick with it. You will get the most out of what you like, not if you do what other's say you should.

my opinion is krap maga is a sloppy imitation of other martial arts and is definately not what it is made out to be,its a fad and a rip off.if your happy doing it then you should do it.
