I injured my calf doing brazilian jiu jitsu. Started icing it yesterday, but today when I put the ice pack on it for about 10 minutes, i got a burn like rash. what is the cause of this? and is it normal.

I am a brazilian jiu jitsu, and muay thai practitioner and recently had a little trouble with my left shoulder, mainly near my collar bone. I began noticing it when I suddenly lost all flexibility in that shoulder, I'm usually very flexible when getting into shoulder locks, and what not but the other day we were drilling oma-platas, and i was forced to immediately tap even before the submission was fully locked in. What are some possible injuries that pertain to these symptoms. Going to a doctor is my last choice since i have no insurance.

I am competing for the first time on July 4th, in the No-gi novice heavyweight division, and wondering if it goes by rounds or if it is just a one round with the time limit.
