Female Chihuahua Has Mated. Successful?
I finally decided to let my Female Chihuahua mate with another Chihuahua after both they were given the clearance fromt the vet. After the 2 had been together for only an hour...they were caught locked together for about 10 minutes. Now the female wants nothing to do with the male except the usual sniffing in which the male is continuing to try to mount her but she wants no part in it. Does this mean she may have gotten pregnant? Will she let him mount her again if she is pregnant?
90% of my answers are non related to my questions. Sorry guys but where I live Chihuahuas are not found in shelters nor on the streets so having said that...the pups wont be "more unwanted dogs" and I will not be getting her spayed, not today, tomorrow and not ever. Now let me go pick a best answer.

whether she is pregnant or not has nothing to do with her letting him continue to mate. It could be she is done with the stage of her heat when she will stand for the male.
A tie pretty much means she is pregnant. Be sure to notify the buyers puppies most likey are on the way.
Here is a calender that can show you her due date.

Note she will not have them the exact day, give her wiggle room.
Also, if this is her first time to be bred, it could be that the tie was uncomfortable. Many maiden bi*ch*s seem distressed from the breeding and will even at times bite the male if he tries again.
Be sure to not leave them alone, as she might try to roll on the ground if they tie again, which could injure the male.
Chihuahua's can have difficulties in labor, be sure to have the vet on standby when she goes in. Best wishes.

Omg can't believe how many people have had a go at this woman she only asked a question for a bit of advice I'll shall remember never to ask this site for advice when I mate my chihuahua and I always think it is good for the female to have at least one litter maybe we should castrate all female women as well then as even women go through difficult births n need c-sections or give their kids up so unless u have a nice reply with advice I would say keep ur opions to urself. U go girl if u want to breed then do some more research and give it a go as that's what I'm gonna do

Your dog is probably preg if she tied. She will be due in approx 60 days. I would be sure to be in contact with your vet and be prepared for a ccection. (chis need these often) These can cost anywhere from 600-1500 to have done so be sure you know where to go ahead of time, so if it is needed you can act quickly. Also be prepared for calcium deficiency. This can make the mom have seizures and shake, and will kill the mother if not treated ASAP by a vet. This is also very common in the small breeds, esp chi's. Be sure you discuss these with your vet and have a plan of action ready (and the $$$ put away). Chi's are very high risk when it comes to pregnancy. Also be sure you talk to the vet about getting all the puppies vet checked, vaccinated, and wormed before you think of selling/re homing them. All this costs $$. It is not easy or free to breed a dog. It is a great responsibility to do right. So, now that you made the commitment and bred her, please be sure you commit to the proper care of her and her litter.
Good luck.

A vet clearance simply means that neither dog has any obvious signs of disease....that doesn't mean that they don't both have genetic disorders that will be passed on to their pups. That is why genetic testing is so important.
You do realize that by producing inferior pups, the future owners of these pups can and will sue you for medical bills if your pups have any genetic disorders?
Get your girl spayed, there are plenty of unwanted Chihuahuas so there is no need for more.

It means she's past her receptive period, whether she's pregnant or not. You won't get another tie.
FYI, your vet looking over your two dogs and proclaiming that they seem perfectly healthy is NOT clearance to breed them. Have you researched the various genetic diseases that Chihuahuas carry and produce?
You obviously haven't tested for them...so the least you can do now is learn what they are so your puppy buyers can be properly warned.

Sorry,I have to agree with Aquella on this one.I hope you have the $$$$ saved up for a possible c section (no less than $800.00) for prenatal visits to the vet, ultrasounds and x-rays(another $500.00) ..You will need this and then some all to ensure the safety and well being of the dam.And you thought you were going to make some money breeding chihuahuas????You didn't read the books first, did you??? Oh,you say you just wanted to have one of her puppies???Would've been cheaper to go out and buy one from a proffessional breeded.Sorry,as a breeder of Chihuahuas myself,I could've told ya all this!

Wonderful! Yes you CAN say she mated successfully NO. Just bring another litter of unwanted puppies into the world where they'll end up being killed. Why weren't the two supervised? Why aren't they not fixed? BYB's only do one thing...make normal resbonsible owners sick.

Congratulations! You can now count yourself among the millions of BYB, adding millions of unwanted dogs to the euthanasia list at shelters across the country.
Not to mention putting your existing dogs life in danger.
Get her spayed.

If you need to ask this question here it is a sign that you don't know anywhere near enough to be breeding.
Please go do some serious research on responsible breeding.
