How do I change the oil in my Tank Urban Sporty 50cc.?

I'm still learning the maintenance and can't find a decent model or instructions anywhere.

Please help a scoot-newbie out!

(THE VIDEO AT THE BOTTOM EXPLAINS ALL THIS!)

First off, have a brand new quart of 10w30 or 10w40(I use 10w40 Castrol Syntec Blend oil---the partly synthetic type) engine oil handy. They specifically make oil for 4 cycle/stroke engines (which is what you have, and can be found at Honda dealers...etc..etc..) that is 10w30 and 10w40 as well---it's more expensive, yet NOT NECESSARY---it's just designed for higher RPM motorbikes. I don't use that stuff anymore. Is it worth the extra money? I don't know, but as long as u change the oil often, it shouldn't matter too much.

Right below the dipstick(shown here) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3008/3011348583_0cc... , there is this oil drain plug(shown here) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3210/3011348617_38c...

Put your scoot on the main kickstand. Get an empty container(that can hold at least a quart--- I like to use a large, cheap measuring cup to see how much was actually in there, and compare it to what the dipstick reads prior to draining oil) and set the container on some old newspapers, directly below the oil drain plug.

You will need a socket(that fits the plug) and ratchet---and maybe some latex gloves and/towels so your hands don't get oily. As well as a funnel of some sort.

Take the oil dipstick out first. Then, turn the plug counter-clockwise---once it's loose just keep turning by hand if possible, that way you will catch it when it comes off. Also there is a spring and a small metal filter( don't worry, it's not broken!! lol, and very, very, very easy to put back in) that you want to catch with the oil plug, unless you want to fish around for it in the dirty oil.

Let the oil continue to drain into the container until it stops. At this point, you can either blow down into the hole where the dipstick is(somehow) or press the kickstart by hand---barely and gently to make sure it's all out, BUT AGAIN, THAT'S NOT NECESSARY--it's only a little more oil..

Now once that's all done inspect the metal oil filter for metal shavings and clean if necessary. Place the metal oil filter into the larger end of the spring, then place the other end of the spring onto the oil drain plug---then, put back into the opening where it belongs. Since there is a spring involved, push up with a little pressure before you start to screw the plug back in. Begin screwing the plug back in with upward pressure with your hand( or ratchet if easier) or the spring will force the plug off. If that happens, no big deal ---just try again...= )

Once the plug is tight(not tooooo tight!) get the funnel into where the dipstick was.

Put in about 3/4 of a quart to begin with. (mine takes a little over 3/4 of a quart). Now your not done yet!! = )

Screw the dipstick back in, and start your scooter up for a couple minutes---then shut back off. Unscrew dipstick again(still on the main center kickstand), wipe clean---NOW, THERE ARE 2 WAYS TO CHECK THE OIL LEVEL WITH THE DIPSTICK---oil level will be on the cross-hatched marks at the last inch or so of the dipstick.

First way---- 1) Put the dipstick into the hole---but don't screw in, I REPEAT, DON'T SCREW IN. Now, pull it back out and see where it reads..... it should be about halfway on the dipstick( a little more than half is okay) IF THE CROSS-HATCHES ARE COMPLETELY COVERED THAT MAY BE SLIGHTLY TOO MUCH

    OR

Second way--- 2) Screw the dipstick back into the hole ALL THE WAY. Unscrew and pull back out and check and see. The dipstick reading should be about 3/4 or slightly more covered with oil. In other words, it's okay for the dipstick to show a higher reading when checking the oil when it's completely screwed in.

I like to check both ways to be honest.

ANYWAY, determine whether or not you need to add more oil or not. I usually have a small amout left in the bottom of the quart of oil.

Sounds to me like a battery issue...maybe a dead cell, when it switches over to charge it, the battery is trying to draw too much of the juice and the bike wont get a good ignition... its not burning clean, loads up in the cylinder and dies. Let it set, the battery gets some of it charge back as it cools down, and starts the bike. Could be wrong, but that may be it. Have the battery checked... Autozone will check the battery for free most likely...and free is a good way to eliminate one could be cause. Good Luck!!!
