What are some really interesting mythological creatures?

Preferably sentient, since I have to write a report on what it's like to be one. Practically everyone in my class is doing vampires, so I kinda want to stay away from that. What are some really interesting mythological creatures that are at least somewhat human, so I can write from their perspective?

There are a lot of sentient creatures in mythology. Centaurs & werewolves are two, then there are mermaids, arians (winged people, sometimes confused/mixed with angels), any of the LoTR characters like elves, trolls, ogres, dwarves, tree sprites; sirens & Medusa are Greek mythology....can't think of anymore right now but you get the idea.

how about medusa? from Jason and the argonauts? She's the creature that if you looked into her eyes she would turn you into stone, Jason had to cut her head off and bag it, he later used the head on another creature -it's been so long since I heard of this story so I forget some of it. Medusa is the creature that looked like a lady with snakes for hair. I can't remember, but she may have even had a snake body?

try an empoudai they are the legends on which vampires were based off of they have human tops from the waist up like pale white skin and red eyes the more advanced kinds can burst into flames but their legs are mismatched like a shaggy hoof of a goat and a bronzed human leg very creepy creatures there are also Harpies are also a good choice they eat humans and they are part bird

The sirens were cool, luring sailor with their charms.

Lilith, defied the patriarchy and became the mother of demons. Visiting men in their dreams, culling their sperm from wet dreams.

Liliths not a creature but then really neither or vampires, so I'm assuming that's okay. And then you can do it from any god, demon, angel, demi-god, semi-god etc out there.
