  • Audio and video files don't play sound!! HELP!?

My PC -- running Windows 7 for several months -- just now has stopped playing the sound in any audio and video files. The computer still plays Windows sounds, and I get audio from videos off of the internet, but nothing comes out when I try to play files on the computer itself. I've reinstalled all of my codecs and everything, but nothing has worked so far; the volume adjuster doesn't even recognize that there's supposed to be sound coming out!

Please help me resolve this issue!!

  • Some of my files were deleted by Vista. How can I get them back?

A few weeks ago, Vista decided to go crazy and deleted a bunch of files from not only my laptop itself, but also from the external hard drive plugged into it. None of the files are in the recycle bin of my computer; that was the first thing I checked. I have this nifty program on my laptop called "UnEraser," but whenever I run it, it comes up with a bunch of randomly named files, none of which it is able to bring up a preview of, leaving me unable to tell if any of these files are the ones I would like back. I WOULD restore them all, but the total size of all these files is more than my external and internal hard drives can hold! And as a poar collij stoodint, I really can't afford to go buying another external hard drive, so... any advice? I would reeeeeeeeeeeeally like these files back!!!

  • Please help me with restoring my back-up files to my laptop?

Long story short, I got screwed by Vista and then spent an entire month waiting for my free upgrade to Windows 7 to arrive. Vista's ***-raping of my BRAND NEW laptop left me able to backup my files to an external hard drive, but that was pretty much it. Now that I finally have Windows 7 installed, though, I would love to restore those back-up files to my computer. I ran the .exe file in the backup folder, but there is also an FBW file entitled Backup.2.fbw, and when I click on this, a window pops up to tell me that there's nothing the computer can do with that type of file. Meanwhile, very few of my original files are back on my computer, so I am left to assume that the rest of it is stored in this FBW file. How can I restore these files? Is there a specific program I need to download? Please help!!

  • What are the politically correct ethnic and/or racial terms in other countries?

I realized a few days ago that the terms "African American," "Latin American," et al. can only really be used in reference to peoples living in the United States. But what about in other countries? What are the terms for, say, England? "African Brit," "Latin Brit," et al.? Or are there other terms?

Please note that I'm referring to politically correct terms, not racial slurs.

  • Windows Vista says I need to be an admin to move a file to the desktop. I AM an admin. How can I fix this?

I'm trying to move my iTunes music from my old laptop to my new one, using the instructions from Apple's support site. One of the instructions is to move the iTunes folder on my new laptop onto the desktop, but Vista won't let me do that because I apparently need administrator permission, even though I AM A FRIGGING ADMINISTRATOR, as well as the ONLY user on this new laptop. What can I do to get around this annoyance?

  • How old do you have to be to be considered an "adult guardian" when taking someone under 17 to a rated R movie?

I want to take my brother to go see District 9, but it's rated R. He's 14, so he needs an "adult guardian" to go see it. The problem is, I'm at the really annoying age of 20, where I'm not a teenager anymore, but not yet a legal adult. Is 20 still old enough for me to go see this movie with my younger brother, though?

  • Is there a way to force Windows to start, if it's not starting with the computer?

The computer is a Dell Inspiron 6000 I bought back in 2005, I think. It's done this before, so I bought a new laptop to replace it, and now I just need to get it to boot up properly once more so that I can move some files over to my new laptop using my external hard drive. Is there a way I can force Windows (specifically XP, although I don't know how much difference that makes) to start up, even if it doesn't boot up with the computer? Right now all that comes up when the computer starts, after the Dell boot-up screen, is a little white vertical blinking line in the top-left corner of the screen.

    Thank you so much!!

  • How can I upload photos from my phone onto Facebook? (that whole mobile uploads thing)?

I used to be able to do this on my old phone, but I can't figure out how to do this with my new one. It's been several years since I've done it, so I'm kind of confused. Before, I used to text my pictures to Facebook: now it's telling me to email them? But I don't have mobile web on my phone, so is there another way?

  • What laptop computer would you recommend for me?

I need a new laptop computer and am trying to decide which one to spend my money on. I'm a college student, and although I do prefer Macs, I'm much more used to PCs, so I think I'm going to go with that (especially since PCs are cheaper and have replaceable parts). I need at least 2 gigs of RAM. A lot of what I would use it to do would be word processing, but I would also want to be able to play a lot of movies on it (another tick against the Macs: speakers aren't very impressive).

What would you recommend? If you could, I would really appreciate reasons, or links to specs, if you could provide them.

  • Pain in my upper back?

Lately my back has been hurting, just around and under the shoulder blades, and occasionally ranging down to just around waist level. It feels like an ache, and it happens both when I'm sitting down and standing up, although it usually only happens later in the day. My mom just got laid off, so I don't want to go to the doctor unless I really have to, so please let me know what this could be, and/or how I can make this pain go away!!

  • Can I use Spore on multiple computers, without buying multiple copies?

One of my friends told me that this was possible, but I'm not sure. If it is possible, how can I do it? (I have two PCs, one with XP and one with Vista)

I read the guide thing that came with the game, which said I could use the EA Download Manager, which would open a list of products that I could choose from to download the game onto that computer, but the only list of games I can find on the EADM is under the Patches tab, but this list does not contain Spore.

    Please help me! Thank you!

  • What are some really interesting mythological creatures?

Preferably sentient, since I have to write a report on what it's like to be one. Practically everyone in my class is doing vampires, so I kinda want to stay away from that. What are some really interesting mythological creatures that are at least somewhat human, so I can write from their perspective?

  • Questions about death, and the nature of man? (some religious questions, but not all)?

    Why is man mortal?

    Why do people die?

Why do they need to die?

Why did God make them this way?

Why did He create the concept of death at all?

Why does it hurt, even when you don't know the person who died?

Why are people mean to each other?

Why do people kill and hurt and fight?

    Why can’t everyone get along?

Why do some people believe that they are better than others?

Why do some people sexually harass, molest, or rape others?

    Why cause pain?

  • Where can I watch the new FullMetal Alchemist anime online?

I don't want to try just running a search on Veoh or YouTube or anything, because I don't want to have to sort through a thousand results featuring videos of the OLD anime. If anyone could provide me a direct link to a video, or to a website that provides the videos for the new anime, that would be phenomenal!!

I just had this random thought today... What do you think? And, if possible, can you support your beliefs?
