Audio and video files don't play sound!! HELP!?

My PC -- running Windows 7 for several months -- just now has stopped playing the sound in any audio and video files. The computer still plays Windows sounds, and I get audio from videos off of the internet, but nothing comes out when I try to play files on the computer itself. I've reinstalled all of my codecs and everything, but nothing has worked so far; the volume adjuster doesn't even recognize that there's supposed to be sound coming out!

Please help me resolve this issue!!

Update:

Converting the files won't do anything; everything worked fine an hour ago, but doesn't work now. No files, regardless of format, WILL. NOT. PLAY. SOUND.

Update 2:

argh, I meant that no files will play sound

There might be a driver problem, or the software you're using to play the audio/video has been modified to not accept the file types you're playing. I'd need more information before I can say anything more.

Shoot me a message if you can. :)

it must be by way of virus.. as quickly as test your equipment with a ideal antivirus.. If it does not resolve your situation, attempt reinstalling the appliance(gamers) and replace them.. If it additionally does not resolve your situation, attempt reinstalling the audio drivers... If it additionally does not attempt formatting yourpersistent wherein your OS is put in(ex: C:)...
