Consider the room you are in now and what items within that room were made in a factory. Your computer, the chair you're sitting on, the clothes you are wearing. The wallpaper and carpet, the glass in your window frame, light switches, plug sockets, ornaments, CD's, DVDs, TV & music centre.
Have a look in the bathroom. Toothpaste, toothbrush, sink, bath, shower, wall tiles - all made in a factory. Have a peek in the kitchen. Living room, whatever rooms there are and whatever is in them. Look outside - cars, buses, trains and planes - all factory made.
Imagine how many people work in these factories and what it would be like for them to lose their livelihoods. If you're fine with that and don't mind either losing all those commodities or paying incredibly high prices for them in future then you can seriously think about how all factories could be closed down.

Modernization would not only make many factories "greener," but would pump money back into the economy and provide jobs.
If you live near a troublesome factory, document problems with photos and letters. Keep any response you get, and contact your local elected officials to see what can be done. In the meantime, do some homework to determine what laws are in effect, whether they're being complied with, and how they can be strengthened.
Factories with the worst track records are often subject to fines, but the fines tend to be more of a slap on the wrist unless they are failing to correct whatever defects they have.
The good news is our rivers aren't catching fire anymore due to pollution. After way too many such episodes back in the 1960's, the people and our government sat up and took notice. That said, we can and should do better in making sure our factories pollute as little as possible, and we should mitigate the effects of whatever pollution is produced, knowing full well the cost of all of that will ultimately be borne by the consumer.

North America and Europe should Nuke the rest of the world and reduce the population from 7 billion to about 1 billion. Then unite the world under ONE country with laws only allowing 2 children. Death sentence, mandatory birth control, and condoms delivered weekly by the government.

First... I wonder which new educational push has the sudden influx of factory demonization going on.. wish I knew.
Second, if you want to stop factories, stop using things that come from them.

Think about what you just said. Parts of your home were all made in a factory or do you think like a common liberal that homes just appear out of nowhere. Where will you get food to eat, grow it yourself? On you own land? Right.... keep dreaming.
People like you will be the first to complain when you are forced to sleep outside like wild animals. Think be you spew this nonsense.

Carbondioxide produced by factories can be dissolved in lime water (calcium oxide) to form calcium carbonate.
CaO + CO2 = CaCO3
Carbondioxide can also be dissolved by this equation
LiOH + CO2 = Li2 CO3

Actually there is a lot less pollution coming from the US than there used to be. And filtration standards will continue to be increased - I would invest in DCI, especially with a Democrat President and Congress.

Well ya could just put on scrubbers (things that clean the air coming out from the factories), or convert to other fuel sources now don'tchya know?
