how to set up a network for dummies?

ok so i'm not really up on this computer thing but i have a laptop and a desktop..both get the internet via wireless router. the desktop is xp and the laptop is vista. how can i do that? simply put please and in detail. thanks

    You need the software and instructions from whichever brand of router you are using. These are very likely downloadable from the web, Google is your friend!

    It is a bit of a pain to use the MAC addresses, but that would be most secure to my knowledge. Definitely use a strong password on your wireless.
