Fiat, Chrysler, & GM?

Just wondering what everyone's take on Fiat wanting to buy GM's European unit (it includes Opel and Vauxhall).

Frankly I am shocked that GM is willing to give up on their high selling European products. GM attempted to introduce the Astra to the US market through Saturn (Astra is built by GM's foreign "Big Three" Opel, Vauxhall and Holden), but thanks to an underpowered engine and no advertising, it was a project doomed to failure.

GM has always been proud of their oversees branch, and as with most American car companies, superior products were sold abroad (this is my opinion, according to my taste). Although I'm sure that FIAT could do some great things with those brands, I don't see where they would fit in since FIAT is already known for their small cars, where would Opel and Vauxhall fit in? Fiat has the compact cars, Chrysler will give them large cars, Ferrari has the sport/luxury, Alpha Romeo and Lancia already give the FIAT SPA group their mid-sized cars...So I'm a bit worried that such a buyout would lead to the demise of these two classic auto makers.

I don't have great expectations for success.

I have driven Fiat cars. They just don't have the fit and finnish US consumers want. Opel cars are also substandard. Chrysler used to be a quality automobile, but they have failed to meet customer expectations.

So unless the US consumer lowers their expectations, the long term success of this venture seems doomed.

    GM wants to sell it.

And Chrysler wants to join Fiat to copy their small car designs.

And Fiat wants to join Chrysler so they can use their American dealerships to sell Fiat's in America.

So they might have a jointventure.

this is a great step...fairly given the corruption that merely broke in regards to the Obama-Emanuel South Chicago stable-arm techniques against the bond-holders of Chrysler. this is what American voted for...grimy returned-room Chicago type politics...advantageous pastime, Obama lemmings. you positioned into the WH the main corrupt administration yet seen in this usa. i believe there'll be lots greater corruption and self-helping return from Obama and his Chicago cronies. Heaven forbid we could desire to continuously have elected an trouble-free guy.
