All Democrats/Republicans Are Stupid?

I hear people that are prejudiced against others based on their political affiliation. For some reason, people think this is totally okay while things like sexism and racism they still view as wrong. Here are some things I've heard:

"All Democrats are communists in disguise."

"All Republicans hate gay people."

"All Democrats hate the military and the troops."

"All Republicans are gun nuts."

"All Democrats hate freedom."

"All Republicans would rather help big business than people."

And, of course, "Of course he/she did/said <insert something stupid>, he/she is a Republican/Democrat!"

The converse is also true. There are some people who believe that their party of choice is full of politicians that always make the right decision and never do anything selfish or bad.

So I must ask: how many of you are that prejudiced and lazy that you actually believe and/or have said this stuff before?

Update:

JOE J: "AMericans are basically stupid."

And you're basically prejudiced. The whole point of this question was to ask how many people blindly believe idiotic rhetoric...seems I have a "yes" with your answer.

Update 2:

STEPH W: "common sense trumps stupidity everytime..and i think that the dems trump the republicans for obvious reasons. Everyone sees that. why don't you?"

See reply to Joe J.

Update 3:

KITT, HUSHYANOIZE, MICHELLE M: You guys are just trolling, right?

You can't actually believe this, can you?

Update 4:

JULIA S: Now that you mention it, most of the people I met while serving in the Marine Corps were Democrats.

No. A big problem is that people can become so convinced of the "rightness" of their cause that they become blinded to decency and common sense. Both Democrats and Republicans have been guilty of this... The bigger problem is that is that hard-liners on both sides can get so convinced of their moral uprightness that they can actually undermine their fellow human beings - people who are just as just as moral and upright and patriotic as they are.

    Pretty sad.

    Blanket statements hurt everybody. ;-)

I think it's fairly common to believe that people who have different beliefs from you are somehow stupid or otherwise misguided. I mean, if they were right, you'd agree with them, right?

Unfortunately, we (we being the collective we) often forget that parties and nations are made up of individuals and one size does not fit all. I know Republicans who are pro-gay rights. I know Democrats who are in the military. Generalizations come from the perception we have of the members of a party/nation that are the most vocal and public... that goes for both the people who say things like you said above. It also goes for people who (I'll admit, I'm guilty of this) believe that others really believe/say these things with any kind of frequency.

I no longer call myself a Republican! I am a Christian Conservative!

This is What I Feel America NEEDS:

We Need Common Sense - Honesty - Accountability - True Leadership - A Balanced Budget - A Flat Tax System (Get Rid of the IRS) - Enforcement of Our Constitutional Laws - Term Limits for All and NO Life-Time Benefits for ANY! (mine) Plain and Simple! But the Liberals HATE THIS! Oh Well - Latter Days!

Peace to All and God Bless! Jane.

I am an old man. My Grandfather fought with his brother about the same things. My Grandfather was a union steward and a Democrat and his brother Republican. Same things were discussed 60 years ago. Still will be in 60 years. Everyone, never, always, and nobody are words to used very very carefully.

The way the candidates feel about issues have been the same for a year now. We all know (or at least the smart ones) the issues because they have been posted and talked about for a YEAR! Now were down to character, who has the least skeletons and who is most like to uphold there word given their history. I'm sorry but we need to know this!

I have not believed it, but I have heard plenty of it. I used to be Democrat, but was tired of bias towards Republicans and vice versa. I became independent. We can blame bias media, such as MSNBC and FOX News.I have heard All Republicans are racist, All Democrats are stoners/hippies. The list goes on and on.

Partisanship is an ACTUAL mental disorder. Divide and Rule.

There is no more FIRM division than the moronic, and FALSE, left/right paradigm.

As soon as lib or con pops out of someone's mouth I tune them out.

Dividing the people dilutes their power. No wonder government and media LOVE IT SO MUCH.

The above statements are "sweeping generalization" fallacies; however, there is a complete lack of diversity in the Democratic leadership who are all far left(Pelosi, Reid, Obama). The GOP's leadership (the ones who don't want to be democrats) have anywhere between Liberal to quasi conservatism to clueless.

I use my common sense to decide what i believe in morally. Dont ever think politically. It will bias you. Read the situation before its source, and you can decide who has validity. One who sways a direction politically will cloud their thoughts with bias's. Best answer?

I think the majority of Americans have more in common then not.

Politicians on the other hand use political rhetoric to divide us...
