I have had new students join my classes that are in their 50's. So you should have no problem. go for it. Just avoid the McDojo that sell belt contracts. If you can find a school that does notr sell contracts or hand out belts to children, you will be fine.
Best of Luck!

It is never to late to start training but I would not train at a dance place that offers martial arts classes. Find a full time, authentic dojo with a good Sensei who focuses on teaching the arts. This way you get a real martial artist that is teaching martial arts instead of someone offering a program at a dance school. But that is just my opinion. In my area we have a Hapkido class at the gymnastics, cheer and dance school. It is one of the biggest jokes in the world. There are kids running all over the place, belts handed out like candy and their instructor who claims to be a 5th degree fought one of my new black belts at a tournament last year and got his clocked cleaned. I have visited a bunch of places that teach in dance studios or gymnastic places and to date I only ever found one that was even qualified to teach.

Of course its not to old ! 16 is still quite young in the scheme of things, I have seen much older people start martial arts classes - obviously attend a beginners class. In fact with your previous TaeKwnonDo experiance you might even have a head start on some of them!

I started at 19 as a joke with my drinking buddies. they offered it as a college class. I was the only one who stuck with it all the way to black. there is a saying in alot of schools. every one starts at the bottom. yes you may look like a fool, but so did every one at first, and we all remember being there.

age have nothing to do with your potential in fighting or anything
look Tim Duncan never played basketball until he was a High school Senior.
In one year Othe from ole miss never played football in his whole life until his Seiner year in high school.
the middle weight world champion in boxing never box until he was 18 YO in prison.
so learning Early does not mean you would be better.
