Which highway in Costa Rica is faster?
In a few months I will be going to Costa Rica. This is my 4th time down, and I will be driving from San Jose to Pavones.
The past few times we drove south on the Pan-American Highway (Highway 2) and then on the way back to San Jose we took the beach route, through Dominical, Jaco, etc.
It has been difficult to guage which of these routes are really faster because of weather, stopping, getting lost the first time, etc.
So, which of these routes are faster? We are going in August, so we expect rain. Last June we want there was a Tropical Storm during our driving trip, so it can't be worse then that!

In August? It can be a flip of the coin. The coast, you are more apt to get more truckers (slower traffic) servicing the coastal towns, where the other way less. But, it all depends on weather. A good downpour, a few accidents and either way, traffic can be at a stand still. And yes, it can get worse. A flooded road and one can expect to sit for a few days waiting for the water to subside.
Personally, I would take the Pan-American highway both ways since there seems to be less truckers on it, easier to pass slower vehicles and it is maintained better. Plus, since it goes inland (and this is just me) it seems that the heavy downpours aren/'t as long, water runs off faster because of the mountainous region then on the coast ... so you are less apt to get in stand-still traffic.

you're going approximately this all incorrect. initially, do no longer attempt to do too plenty because of the fact the roads are fairly undesirable. there'll be severe washouts so do notcontinual at evening and flow sluggish because of the fact the potholes are an identical colour because of the fact the line itself and you will finally end up with a blowout exceptionally uncomplicated. you is unquestionably no longer seeing any energetic volcanoes because of the fact the mist is so thick its even annoying to be certain sturdy adequate tocontinual in the mountains in the process the wet season. i'd flow to Guanacaste on the northwest coast. Its the final section so some distance as i'm worried. i flow there a minimum of as quickly as a twelve months and am making plans on finding out to purchase land this twelve months. Flaming sea coast and Nosara are the factors that i like the final.the individuals are laid returned and delightful-a minimum of out in the country. be careful in San Jose and Tamarindo, they're packed with drug sellers and thieves. in the country, you will come across decrease priced accomodations and lots to do while you're an out doors style of guy.

The fastest route is if you take the 2! Drive on the 2 and from San Isidro drive down to Dominical. You can compare driving times and distances on this site: http://www.yourtravelmap.com/costarica/travelmap/
