  • What is the best lens to rent for surf photography?

I have filmed (video) my friends surfing for like 20 years... I have a Nikon D90 I borrow from work for some still shots as well. The long lens I have is an AF-S NIKKOR 70-300mm 1:4.5-5.6 G.

We are going to Costa Rica next month and I was thinking of renting a lens from borrowlens.com or a similar website.

What would be a good lens to put on the D90 to get good surfing shots? Should I even both with the D90 body, as it's getting older and slower by todays standards? Any other thoughts?

    Thank you for your input!

  • If Obama and the Dem's really want fair taxation, why dont they support a Flat Tax?

Obama is always complaining that Warren Buffet pays a lower tax rate then his secretary. (Lets forget the fact that its earned income vs capital gains)

The most "fair" system of taxation would be to completely throw out our progressive tax system, get rid of ALL deductions and credits, and just have everyone pay the same, flat percentage... that would truly be a fair system...

But he wont support that either. Why not?

  • What are the best driving routes from San Jose to Southern Pacific Coast?

I have taken annual trips to Costa Rica since 2004.... always going to the Southern Pacific Coast. First several years I took either Route 2 down to Palmar Norte to meet 34, (or sometimes 3 out to Orotina to meet 34 by Jaco and take the beach route down... although back then before it was paved that was not always fun).... last several years it's 27 al the way to 34, and 34 all the way down the coast.

I was looking at a map today and 239 appears like it would be a good route to take, and it looks like it would save time going south.... is it a good alternative to 27-->34?

And what about Route 2 to San Isidro, then Route 243 to Route 34?

Sorry for all the driving questions... it's always a long travel day, if we can shave off a few hours of driving, it would be nice.... and in Costa Rica, what looks good from a satellite might really be 100km of dirt road with land slides, pot holes, and river crossing without a bridge.... I rather not be that adventurous!

  • Is the highway from San Jose, Costa Rica to the coast open?

A friend of mine came back from Costa Rica a few weeks ago and said the new highway is closed (washed out). I am going on Thursday, and I was wondering if it was reopened?

  • Can my nephew join travel group at layover airport?

I live in Florida, and my 10 year old nephew lives in Atlanta... I am planning a trip out west with friends and other relatives, and there will be a layover in Atlanta.

My nephew will be traveling with the group, but will be joining in Atlanta alone. Technically, the 10 year old will need a ticket with a different origin then the rest of us. Is there a problem with him checking into the airport with his mom, and meeting me on the secure side of TSA? Then on the return trip he would have to meet his mom, and then the rest of us would catch the connection for the final leg of the trip. Obviously, the layover would need to be at least 90 minutes se there is enough time...

  • Is it possible to play World of Warcraft on a plane? Is the Internet good enough?

I have a 4 hour flight to Colorado Sunday, and I know many planes have wifi (I never paid for it before because my flights lately have been under 2 hours, so it's not worth it)

Anyway, is the Internet on planes good enough to play WoW?

  • Do I have to provide a 1099-MISC to contractors that do work fixing up an investment house?

    Hello,

I recently formed a LLC with a friend, and we purchased our first foreclosure. We will be hiring contractors to do a lot of the work fixing up the house.

Do I need to issue 1099's to my contractors? I am thinking that I do not have to issue one if I pay a corporation for a service, but what about when I directly pay an individual? What about attorneys that handle closings?

My understanding is, if this was a rental property, it would not be considered "Trade or Service" so I would not have to issue a 1099.... is it the same rule if I am buying and selling real estate and hiring contractors to do work?

We just got the house, so there was no work done in 2009, but we are about to get rolling, so I would like to know if I need to collect names/addresses/SSN's for contractors so I can issue a 1099 at the end of the year.

    Thanks for the information!

  • Which highway in Costa Rica is faster?

In a few months I will be going to Costa Rica. This is my 4th time down, and I will be driving from San Jose to Pavones.

The past few times we drove south on the Pan-American Highway (Highway 2) and then on the way back to San Jose we took the beach route, through Dominical, Jaco, etc.

It has been difficult to guage which of these routes are really faster because of weather, stopping, getting lost the first time, etc.

So, which of these routes are faster? We are going in August, so we expect rain. Last June we want there was a Tropical Storm during our driving trip, so it can't be worse then that!

  • Can surfboards fly in the cabin of an aircraft as a passenger?

I am flying with friends to Costa Rica for a surf trip. This is our fourth trip down. Airline baggage fees for surfboards are getting outrageous... anywhere from $150 to $700 round trip PER BOARD!

Most airlines allow you to purchase a seat for large items... the example they give is a guitar. Can me and my friends buy a "seat" for our surfboards, and carry them on the plane?

  • I found a mouse in my BBQ Grill. How can I keep them out?

I keep my grill outside, and I keep it covered with one of those vinyl grill covers.

Today I took the cover off, and I noticed what looked to be mouse turds all over the little side tables. Upon further inspection, I found the mouse underneith the side-burner cover. I turned the burner on, and the little guy with singged whiskers came out and ran across the hot grill, eventually finding his way off and ran away.

I obviously cleaned the heck out of the grill.

My question is, how can I prevent mice from making my BBQ grill a home? I dont think I want to have poison around food... but I dont want mouse turds or pee around my food either. I cant really use traps, because the bait would attact ants and other insects, since this is outside.

    Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

  • Which will win the battle: Blue-Ray or HD-DVD?

This is just like the VHS/BETA fight... and we all know what happened there. (My parents bought a BETA VCR... it was useless after a year)

So who will win this one? SONY is behind Blue-Ray.... that is a lot of weight. What do you think?

  • Will the United States of America, as we know it, still be around in the year 2020?

Will we fall, and end up with a dictator? Maybe a civil war will change our borders? Maybe everything will go on, and we will be fine... what do you think?

  • What are the requirements for a holster when carrying a concealed weapon in Florida?

    I have heard conflicting stories.

Some say any holster is fine, the gun just has to be concealed.

Others say the holster must have a strap and a snap... so you have to undo the snap before drawing the weapon.

I've tried to find something in the statutes, but its 60 pages of legal mumbo jumbo and I cant find anything.

  • Should I buy this townhouse..?

I am looking to buy a townhome, but the current market is scaring me to death.

I have excellent credit. The townhome is in Jacksonville, FL, in a up-and-coming area.... there is not a whole lot of building within 5 miles, but more development is coming...

The 3/2.5 townhouse is selling for $159k. It is brand new from the builder.... a few months ago it was selling for 200k.

I know this is a VERY difficult question to answer without knowing all the facts... my main concern is how much lower will real estate fall? Will I be kicking myself in 4 months because the price is another 30 grand less?

What do you think the market is likely to do?
