Can we get a room upgrade at the New York Hotel in Vegas?
Hey everyone!
My husband and I are taking a weekend getaway for our FIRST TIME in Vegas this weekend!!
I've been hearing all sorts of stuff about room upgrades being thrown around in Vegas. We're staying at the NYNY, and I was wondering if anyone can give me some insight as to what your experiences have been with NYNY, how likely we'd get an upgrade, and what we need to do or say to get one! Also, I heard something about sending a fax to the manager? Does that really work? 'Cuz I'll do that tomorrow! LOL
We're checking in on Friday, May 8. Just the hubby and I. So I only have one day left to figure this all out! I think right now we have a "skyline" room booked.
Thanks in advance!
FYI everyone - we just got back from an AMAZING trip to Vegas.... we went to the front desk, who, by the way, let us check in at 9:00am! We asked the attendant if they had any upgrades available, and she first said no because they didn't even have a room with one bed for us. Then out of nowhere she changed her mind and HOOKED US UP! She gave us a Park Avenue suite and discount coupons to Zumanity. Our room was beauuuuutiful. We didn't have to tip her at all, we just made sure to be really nice and humble, and mention it was our first time in Vegas. That probably helped. We were happy!

Don't just ask for an upgrade. You can always get an upgrade if you pay for it. I assume you mean a complimentary update. They are not easy and I doubt any faxes to anyone will make any difference.
Below is a site that explains how to tip the desk clerk for extra consideration. Clerks are given a considerable leeway in room assignment. You just want the clerk to choose one for you that is the best possible. So, I recommend the $20 sandwich. Place a folded twenty dollar bill between your driver's license and credit card as you hand them to the clerk. Then just tell the clerk you would appreciate it fi they would do their best for you.
Make sure you understand what is and is not an upgrade. For instance in NY-NY the base rooms are the Skyline rooms. The next step up are the Park Avenue rooms are the next step up and that would clearly be an upgrade. The Broadway Deluxe are the best rooms and that would be an unreal upgrade.
But even among the Skyline rooms some are better than others. The vast majority of clerks will either give you special consideration or will tell you they are unable to and return you tip. Do not be embarrassed. This is Vegas, after all. Everyone is looking for an edge.

I heard if you put a $20 in between your ID and credit card and ask for a complementary upgrade they will give it to you.Since they work on commission it is well worth it to them.I will be trying this on May 28 so i hope it works.Good luck in Vegas.

When you register in, ask about an upgrade. Do not think you can tip the person checking you in, does not work.

you may. but you gotta ask. we've gotten room upgrades for free in numerous cities and it's because we asked.
