1999 Audi A4 1.8T - flashing/beeping oil light.....?

Today in my instrument cluster a picture of an oil can started flashing/beeping. It stopped after a few seconds, but it happened again 3 to 4 times on my drive back from lunch.

I looked this symbol up in my manual, and all it says is "stop driving the car".

Anyone experience this before? What steps do I take now? Since I bought the car, I've always had the oil changed at Audi per the manuals recommendations/timeline. I have 73k miles on the car and it was last in for service at 70k!

Update:

Does the Audi dealer use synthetic oil when they perform service?? Just asking because I thought synthetic oil prevented sludge and I've only had oil changes done at the dealer since I bought the car brand new.

STOP driving the car. You need to have it towed to your mechanic and have him figure out why the car is losing oil pressure. If it's only been 3k miles since you had the oil changed, the oil is either being consumed, or you've got oil sludge blocking the oil pickup screen. I'd put my money on the sludge. The 1.8t is a sludge-monster.

    EDIT:

Audi dealerships should be using synthetic, but synthetic oil does NOT prevent sludge. I'm more familiar with Saabs than Audis, which also suffer from sludge, but Saabs always use synthetic oil too and still manage to sludge up. If your engine isn't making any scary knocking or clanking noises, chances are you didn't do any damage and the sludge can be cleaned out, if that's even what's wrong.

the different adult males are purely in part spectacular. once you own an Audi, you ought to use purely oil in it that meets VW/Audi specification 505/502. something will reason situation. this boundaries you to Mobil One, ELF, some weights of Castrol, and Pennzoil Platinum. the main spectacular oil will state on the label, "meets or exceeds VW?Audi specification 505/502. AMSOIL is onother maximum spectacular oil. The lubrication gadget interior the Audi engine is extremely complicated, which includes timing chains, hydraulic lifters and tensoiners, and a timing belt. using an incorrect oil will unavoidably reason harm to those structures, and void the warrnaty. stay remote from the "V" be conscious, too, as this is sophisticated by using the previous wax help approach and leaves a brown waxy coating on the engine internals (YUCH!!). Your engine additionally contains an oil rigidity alleviation valve, a factor of the oil pump, that differences oil rigidity based upon engine temperature. If those aspects get sludged up by using using the incorrect oil, you are able to are anticipating destiny engine woes!!! in case you have no longer been using the main spectacular oil, then get your engine de-sludged with Seafoam or AMSOIL crankcase purifier, and turn over!!! Amsoil oil will final for one 300 and sixty 5 days or 25,000 miles!! study YOUR handbook 3-4 circumstances!!!! comprehend it!!

You are low on oil. I have a 98.5 A4 and I got lucky and didnt have sludge when I had the beeping light. My advice is go with a thicker oil and use full synthetic oil. Have your engine checked! But frist add oil.
