How long should my CV be?

I'm currently updating my CV, now previously it was only a page long because that is what my dad suggested, however my employer at the moment said that he thinks a good CV would be atleast 2 pages...

How long should I make it?

You don't want a book, but two possibly three pages is the norm. Don't try to crush it onto one page, it has to be an easy read.

How long a CV should be depends upon what you have to put in it really! If you only have a short work history - either in years or number of employers - it could go on one page but nicely presented and spaced and with more than bare details 2 would be better.

Too long a cv is bad though. I can remember a guy coming out of the Air force after quite a few years service, all as a store man, sending us a 17 page CV. He listed in boring detail every little course he had been on for specific storage and handing of various items of equipment [most of which would not be found in civvy street]. One of our directors was most impressed - until i pointed out that a guy who had served the number of years that the applicant had, without any promotion, would be bad news!

It is a mistake to make a CV too long as for most positions being advertised there are a large number of applicants and a large number of CV's to be read. The last thing i want to do is to wade through a 10 page CV when there are another 100 to go through.

About 1-2 pages thats including all headers and paragraphs aswell when writing up a CV. 1. Use a font or colour that stands out from all the other CV's it's bold and will get your CV noticed. 2. A employer likes to know key details I'd suggest writing your details at the top of the page followed by personal qualities i.e flexiable, good time keeper etc followed by your education and previous and current workexperiance any other qualifications you have additionally taken and then a personal statement about your hobbies and interests and why you are interested in there specific job and what sort of asset could you be of to the company I'd keep your personally statement to a maximum of half a page.

CVs are generally 2 pages long. No longer than that though.

MAXIMUM of 2 pages - any longer then employer's lose interest (especially if they have a lot of CVs to go through).

2 pages is good , if you use size 8 to 10 print , that should be fine and use Ariel fine , your education and qualifications and some details about yourself like how to contact you on the first page and details of past jobs if any or your hobbies on the second .

The following is the worst resume writers mistakes:

Too long: the information provided is not concise, relevant or captivating.

Too short: there isn't enough information to enable the employer to properly evaluate the candidate.

Poor presentation: the resume is sloppy, untidy, poorly designed.

    Spelling and grammar errors:

    Too slick:

make it as long as you can, there is no point in putting stuff on it that aren't true and forgetting what you put on when talking to the person.

Mine's two, but thats with all the fancy spacing, lists, headings and stuff.
