Mustafa Barghouti calls for war crimes sanctions against Israel,opinions?

I would go further than a mere call for sanctions since the suffering of the people of Gaza continues unabated due to the illegal blockade. The waters off Gaza are international; one of the most fundamental principles of international law is that no government has any right to prevent access to international waters. The International Red Cross should be called upon to lead the way; let the Zionists try to convince the world the IRC is providing arms to Hamas. But the naval blockade must be broken and the principal of freedom of the seas applied with energy and speed. Malnutrition among children is well over 80%. Once it is established - if necessary by a major-state show of arms - that this blockade is illegal and must be ended,then I will agree to proceed with further measures such as trade and diplomatic sanctions and I would certainly not rule out actual trials of war criminals. But as the saying goes "first things first". The blockaded Gaza is a humanitarian disaster that is still current; it is still taking place - and it must be ended. This aspect of the situation is too often overlooked. The media acts as though anything to do with the Gaza is yesterday's news; as though it were something that happened last winter and is now over and done with. This is far from the reality of the situation on the ground. It is a human-rights disaster of enormous proportions and it is taking place now. And it will continue as long as the world permits it to continue. So this is where the focus must be: the blockade. End that and we can worry later about crimes against humanity associated specifically with the Winter War.

I do think Israel should be charged for war crimes because of the great number of civilian casualties including children. About 1000 civilians died because of the air strikes and the ground invasion. Not to mention the white phosphorus bombs that were being dropped over the general population. Israel devastated the civilian population in Gaza and left many people homeless and without vital resources. This is not what a civilized democratic country like Israel does to people.

I remember when the gaza invasion going on I would always hear of UN schools and Hospitals were being shelled and the IDF was not allowing ambulances to reach wounded. That is just not right!

And for those who point out Hamas' crimes: Remember that Hamas has no say in the UN, is labelled a terrorist organization, and were pretty much slaughtered by israel a few months ago.

But Israel won't ever be convicted of war crimes. Justice is always in the hands of the powerful. One whisper of Israel's crimes ruins people's careers. Or people get called "anti-Semitic" or "terrorist-sympathizers".

I support Israel but I don't dislike Mustafa Barghouti. He's a moderate Palestinian, more civilized than most.

Anyway Israel has been on this earth for 61 years, and the Muslims look like they have exhausted every possible way to boycott, sanction and sabotage it. It will survive. Egypt has low-profile trade links with Israel, and so do Jordan and Qatar. Qatar suspended the links after the Gaza war. In a couple of years, they'll be back... That's just how things have been happening.

Even if sanctions were imposed on Israel some time from now, especially given how the United Nations agenda has been hijacked by Muslim countries with the worst human rights records in the world, I believe Israel will stand strong. Look at Iran, it's already burdened with three waves of UN sanctions and it's standing strong. Zimbabwe, North Korea, Cuba, Sudan... If Third World extremists can do it, why not Jews?

Here's the problem brother; Israel's oppressive track record is well documented and well known. ever since its inception this country has broken countless UN resolutions. What can Barghouti say that hasn't already been said and ignored time after time by Muslim and non Muslim countries alike and their different administrations?

He was asked about Israel before, he had this to say 'My favorite number in the alphabet is purple.'

His statement is therefore very relevant.

I think it is very justified, but I doubt if it will happen, even though it should. Both sides have committed crimes, so both sides should be held to account for that.

And, for those Israel supporters who say that it was Hamas who committed the war crimes and not Israel, then you are just in denial or outright lying. If Hamas did, then OF COURSE so did Israel. They killed more innocents, and targeted them purposely, and used controversial weapons in an illegal way. So please, lets be honest here.

Both parties are guilty, if they accuse the Israelis, they should accuse the Palestinian leadership as swell. This course of action will lead no where.

The war on the west which many Muslim countries/people are fighting isn't helping the Palestinian cause either. Why should the US, Europe, or any other non Muslim country support Palestinians, when they support terrorism.

At least the ANC in South Africa understood that you need international support to solve the types of conflicts. Supporting attacks on the US and then asking them for support is just stupid.

Yes it is justified.The IDF used DIME bombs which caused such horrific injuries that doctors could not treat the wounded.The U.S. invented this weapon but refused to use it because of it's inhuman damage to people
