Why is my car shaking at 60mph or when i hit a bump?

about a month ago my car started shaking when i hit 60mph or if i hit a pothole or manhole or anything like it..i can feel the steering wheel shake and i also here a clunk or popping sound come from the front of the car when i hit a bump.i had new tires put on thinking they might not be balanced...and i also had the alignment done.so i got new tires, balanced and front end alignment done..but its still shaking.i noticed on the front passenger tire..the old tire i had before had uneven tire wear on the inside of the tire..only half the inside was worn down.what can be causing this?ball joint?cv axle?spindle?bearing?its a front wheel drive car.its a 98 mazda 626 with 138,000 miles...why is it shaking so bad?

I would have said you had a bad tie rod end or bad A-frame bushings or maybe a bad pitman arm but these items should have been found when you had the front end alignment.

I would go to another garage and have them check the front end again and see if there is any wear in the things I noted above.

I had the same problem on a 1973 chevy pickup and it turned out to be the pitman arm. I could drive down the road just fine until I hit a bump and the front end felt like it was going to fall apart it shook so bad. The only way to stop it was to slow down to almost a crawl.

I took this truck to several garages until I found one that found the problem. The pitman arm would move on the steering box and the nut was tight. After replacing the pitman arm the problem was gone.

Hope this gives you a place to start and you find the problem.

The tire wear is usually due to a bad alignment which should be fine now since you have had it aligned.

    Good luck.

Well the popping sound usually comes from the CV joints when they are worn out they start popping or clicking, but the shaking sounds more like the engine mounts you may want to have them checked out if they are worn out then your engine could fall out if you hit a speed bump too fast.

Could be a lot of things, but I would get it checked out SOON you don't want to break a ball joint while you are going 60
