Is it too late to get braces for my underbite?

I am 16 right now and I will be 17 in five months. Can braces really fix my underbite because my dentist told me to see an orthodontist three years ago and they said I need surgery to fix it. My parents doesn't want me have surgery so I just ignore it, but now I can see that my right jaw is a little bit bigger than the left side.

Btw, my underbite is not really that bad I don't know why they said I need surgery.

Update:

Thx. I'm just wondering because I don't see people around my age have braces. =))))))

sure, braces are fixable. some orthodontists are distinctive, if this one asks for surgical technique, yet another orthodontist would positioned braces on you. provided that he has only seen you as quickly as and easily did a checkup, i doubt this is a hundred% that the only decision for u is surgical technique. me and my brother the two started out with an underbite and had to flow by using 2 levels of braces. i had it previously, and that i've got it now too, only like my brother, who's 21! and he only have been given it those days. he additionally had the choice to do surgical technique. yet once you p.c. to do braces, it takes countless years particularly given which you have an underbite. the failings i had to do to boot braces have been expander and the mask.. and something else i cant bear in strategies. no longer relaxing! I actual have been doing a majority of those stuff to repair my tooth for over 4 years... surgical technique is just some weeks, yet i think of you're able to rather flow with braces because of the fact for surgical technique you won't be able to consume for some weeks and you're able to consume like liquidy stuff by using a straw.. wish this facilitates :)
