How messy is replacing carpet?
We're moving and want to replace carpeting in two rooms in our mobile home. To keep the cost down, we don't want to replace it in every room. What's involved in doing carpet replacement? What's been your experience? What do you advise?
Thanks, Don! So we won't have to move the furniture out ourselves and put it into storage?

Don has some good points but I don t want to shock you... Not all crews will move furniture..For free at least. Notify the store where your getting carpet so they know what needs to be done. Carpet guys , like all other trades need to carry insurance and liability is one..They have to cover that cost some where.. It may be built into the cost of the carpet or a separate charge. But there s nothing worse for 1 guy ( or several) to show up for a planned job and find out theres extras that both they and the store doesn t know about..
There have been jobs that there is no room to put any thing any where and the furniture needs to go out side and this is a slow process.. Sometimes we had to move it from 1 room to another.. But if all things are set ahead of time and planned, 2 rooms like this is only a 1/2 day job w/ a crew of a couple guys , longer if its just 1.
This goes for the furniture to go back in too..
Check ahead so all parties know whats what so the job goes smooth for every body. Any flooring questions you can e mail me through my avatar.. GL

Replacing carpet in mobile homes can be different than replacing carpet in regular homes. Most mobile home carpet is attached either by staples along the outside of the wall or they run the carpet under the walls. That being said it usually will be a little more expensive in the replacement cost.
As far as what is done, the carpet guys will move everything out of the room, pull up the carpet and padding, nail down some tackwood and then install new padding and carpet.
Two standard rooms with two guys installing and no major seaming involved should take about 1/2 to 3/4s of a day.

Go pick out what you want, tell them you're in a trailer, and they will handle it. They put mine down, long ago, just like they would do in your room and it was just fine. If you move your furniture out, it will be cheaper and they are in and out in a few hours. Not much to it, just $.
And I should add. . .long long ago I went to a discount place and found a really nice carpet with the foam on the back. I ripped out my own carpet, and cut and glued this one down. I paid about $5.99/yd and it was really surprisingly nice. Shop around carefully. If you have any talent, glueing carpet is pretty easy. I cut the carpet to fit, then rolled the rug up to one edge and started glueing and unrolling, then went to the start edge and glued it. But buy carefully. I've never seen anything like this one since.
Just pile your furniture up in another room. . .you'll be putting it back within hours. Or have them do it. . .

Keep your new carpet A+ like! you can take your carpet that you have in there now, out..then do the drywall, then clean up, then put the new carpet in. Have a blast and I hope it looks wonderful!!!
