HD cable/ new TV question ?

I currently have a 19" panasonic tv. i subscribe to Cox Limited Basic cable, and Cox Expanded Service cable. I am planning on buying a 42" vizio or westinghouse from Costco, however i have questions...

1. should i buy HD cable for my new tv?

2. is HD cable a lot more expensive then my current bill of 50.99 p/month ?

3. will i need to buy a cable box?

4. will i need a ton of extra wiring or will that come with the tv or through cox ?

5. if i dont buy HD cable, is it true that channels will apear distorted and/or smaller then they would with HD cable?

thanks.

You need either HDMI or component cables - better buy them from the web.

    2. is HD cable a lot more expensive then my current bill of 50.99 p/month ?

You need to ask Cox that.

    3. will i need to buy a cable box?

You will need to lease an HD set-top box (make it a DVR it is worth it)

    4. will i need a ton of extra wiring or will that come with the tv or through cox ?

No cables in the TV. Just need 1 hdmi cable.

    5. if i dont buy HD cable, is it true that channels will apear distorted and/or smaller then they would with HD cable?

Not smaller, but analog cable looks really bad on big HDTVs.

I recommend you do not buy a Vizio or Westinghouse, instead get the Panasonic or Sumsang from Costso. They have better quality and more reliable than the other 2 tv you mentioned. You have heared of "you get what you paid for" before right. Just the other day, someone asked about a problem with a Vizio and the factory will not honor her warranty. I own a Panasonic 50" plasma and a Sumsang 58" for over a year now and have had no trouble. Service support from Panasonic is very good (Panasonic Blue Ray Disc player DB-10A neede a firmware update, and they sent me a disc in 2 days without any questions at all and the warranty had already expired). If you buy a Blue ray disc player from costco, they include the HDMI cable for free. Go to frys electronic and check out an HDMI cable for $20.00. If you want HD fraom your cable company it's around $10 more a month.

It's gone down in price, and most likely will be a standard in the very near future. No you don't need extra cables or wiring, unless you add a surround sound system. Good luck and enjoy.

If you put that kind of money into a High Definition TV, I would get the HD/Digital cable, so you can get the best picture possible for it. If your cable company has HD service, I would get it & get them to hook it up. I know you will be happier. Without a HD signal, the picture from regular cable will not look good, unless it's digital cable, and even then, unless your TV has a good interface to give you good resolution on both digital & HD channels, it still won't look good. HD/Digital cable doesn't really cost that much more. Good luck in your decision.
