Were Accord trans problems on just auto or 5spd too?
I am looking for a '99 Accord 5spd, specifically because consumer reports shows no trans problems. I'm wondering though if the trans problems that were especially bad on the '00-'02 models were restricted to automatics, or did the manuals have them, too? If it's just automatics, I can broaden my search years, as I'm getting a 5spd. Thanks!

You can go ahead and broaden your search, the automatics had issues but the 5spds are pretty solid, the problems with them were caused by the drivers not the design.

5spd transmissions are extremely well built for stock power output and slight power output increases only. in fact for OEM transmission from honda, it is one of the strongest transmissions honda has made, that includes comparing to other models. you neednt not worry about the transmission unless it feels messed up or makes noise. what you should be worried about is how the car was driven, hondas are notorious for being handled rough thanks to young kids liking the vtec and attempting to race or showoff and whatnot. overall a great car (except for when honda went to ford for some of the design process but nothing bad from what i can find and i own a 99 accord 5spd ex)
