How do I fix an incomplete (corrupt) .MOV file?

I recorded a video with my iPhone. It saves video in .MOV format. The video was still recording when a call came in and the recorder crashed. I know there's plenty of video data there, but I suspect that the program never wrote the video headers because it crashed. Is there any relatively easy way to append headers or otherwise fix this video. I'm in Vista if that helps.

Because some people will ask:

- It has never played before.

- I'm sure it's the video itself, not the disk or the individual computer (see above)

- I've seen services, but frankly, I'd rather fix it myself and learn a new skill than pay someone and learn nothing.

Yeah, if you can just SSH the file back to your computer (I'm assuming your SSHing because obviously your iPhone is jailbroken if you're recording video) and play around with it. I'm sure VLC would be able to open the file if you tried it. Also if that doesn't work there are plenty of applications out there that edit .MOV files, see if any of them will open it and then theoretically you could save it and it would rewrite correctly.

you cant necessarily fix it completely, you probably have parts missing in the file, for example 1:03 and 1:05 is missing but 1:04 and 1:06 is still there. That's why the video is not playing

However, you can use Media Player Classic, it opens almost everything even if its corrupt.

you can also try getting sony vegas and see what is missing but that might be too much work.
