If you can pick one current starting pitcher to start your team, who would it be?

This is a debate a few friends of mine and myself are having. We all say Santana or Halliday, but he says Beckett. He goes with Beckett for post-season dominance as well as good regular seasons, so he thinks he is most well rounded. But to me, if I am starting a team, I can think of around 10 different pitchers I would want over Beckett. Thoughts?

Halladay - just because the Jays can't build a decent team around we've never had the chance to see how he would do in the post season. Personally, I think his competitiveness and performance in big games would serve him well in the post season (think John Smoltz with better stuff)

After that I'd go with: Santana, Lincecum and then maybe Beckett. Greinke has been dominant for his last six starts or something like that...I'd like to see him put together back-to-back good seasons then I'll add him to my list.

Assuming this has no payroll limitations and attempting to keep a 'youthful' lineup the following is going: Starters: Johan Santana Francisco Liriano Roy Halladay Chris timber worker Carlos Zambrano closer: Johnathan Papelbon Bullpen: ok-Rod JJ Putz BJ Ryan Huston highway Joel Zumaya Chris Ray Roy Oswalt 1B: Albert Pujols 2B: Alfonso Soriano 3B: David Wright SS: Jose Reyes OF: Carl Crawford OF: Carlos Beltran OF: Vlad Guerrero C: Joe Mauer Bench: Brian McCann Ryan Howard Chase Utley Jason Bay Miguel Cabrera As for a manager i imagine i might want to take care of that interest with those men

I would not go Beckett over Santana. I would go Santana over Halliday. I would go Greinke over Beckett and Halliday. I would go Santana over Greinke. But if I could sign one, it would be Tim Lincecum. He's young and has all the skills, Greinke and Santana have. And NO I'm not a Giants Fan. I'm a Braves.

They are all good but Santana is the best in baseball right now but i think one day it will be Zack Greinke or David Price

Well then your friend is insane and is likely a Red Sox bandwagoner. Halladay hasn't had a chance yet to prove his worth in the postseason, and anyone who chooses Beckett over Halladay is basically retarded.

  • I would say either Greinke or Santana.

I would say Zack Greinke. He is dominant and very young.

I pick Brett Favre because he will never retire.

and because he can pitch a baseball 42 billion miles per second.

When he's healthy, I would go with Chris Carpenter

For my pitcher i would go with Brett Favre, because even though he played football, he is retired now, and he has an amazing arm!!! =D
