A Question regarding Roman Catholics and their faith?
How come parishioners in your religion are allowed to smoke, swear, gamble and drink alcohol?
Doesn't God condone those very things, in your bible?
I say, your bible, cos yours is slightly different from my (King James version) churchs bible?
I'm just curious. Why?
And yet, RC followers go to church every sunday yet do these things as hobbies and extra circular activities every day.
I'm puzzled, so can someone, preferably in the Rc faith answer me.
Thanks.
Herman, child. Please talk in details. I need answers. I said my church, not me. And yes, I am a sinner cos I backslid. At least me, I know and confess I am a sinner and not a hypocrite. I stay away from my church cos I am a sinner. I am too ashamed since I am one to show my face in their every sunday. What about you?
I don't understand . This is my first time here. What are you talking about, protestant? Are you referring to me as a Protestant? I'm asking cos I need to know. I wouldn't be here asking, If I knew, would I? Oh, and I'm not Protestant.
Also, I'm asking cos I live in, ( not born in- btw ) a town where it dominantly RC, and they do these things, daily. Yet, go to church every sunday like a hobby.
:/
Read the question. Is this why the pastor does it for you cops you can't do it properly?
I'm asking why is it allowed?
Can you be resonable and rational, please?
Im not here to condone anyone or it's religion. Stop jumping to conclusions, sheesh.
Thanks. Now I can see why they are all confused.
That is why I am asking this question, to find out. Why is it when another asks about anothers religion. The asker gets "stoned to death" through words? That is why we are all here as humans is to learn from another and forgive eachothers transgressions, is it not? I'm only sharing what I see, as a spectator. And I know all about the priest not going about alls business. I know that it is all down to the subject him/herself to ought to be able to know what is right and wrong.
The Bible does state that all addictions are sin, but I gues it would be absolutely impossible to ask the addictee on where is it safe to draw the line? When the line is quite obvious.
I will also share that I have noticed all RCs to have the same reaction as you all have shown me. They have no problem with addictions because why? Cause it is safe to do so as long as it does not become an addiction. I hear it over and over again. And yet, every time I se them, they're either gamling every week, continued -->
Sorry some of my keys stick.
And yet, when I see them, they're either gambling weekly, sparking a cig up once/few times a day, getting together with friends weekends to have " a good time" they call it by different names. And swearing daily but Sundays is a differnt story- evryone files in one by one through the church doors like they were raised to do. One lady told me once that "as long as you confess your sins to the priest, all is good" when I asked why they do that. God is the father, not the priest. You are supposed to confess your sins to him through prayer not the priest evry sunday- I told her. it didn't faze her cause that is what she was raised to believe. Although I know of one very good- in my eyes of a true catholic woman- God rest her soul. who is was a good example of what a real catholic ought to be. So, I know about good catholics out there cause I seen them, very few. I have to give it to the youger generation though, they stay away because they KNOW they sin-period
Young People stay away from church cause they sin so atay away, which is good cause UNTIL they search for God, they will know where to find him.
But all in all, my point is ALL types of addictions IS a sin in God's eyes. But for some reason, RCs justify their wrongs as something good. Like I said, I heard it before, they say as long as it is once in awhile, it is not a sin. But to continue doing something repeatedly, IS a habit, therefore an addiction. All RCs are the same, will say the same thing. Athiests ALLOW these things, so is it safe to say that RCs are athiest? Another thing RCs do is gossip. Isn't gossiping bad, as in against Gods law? Or are you going to find a way to justify gossiping too? They huddle outside the church doors and talk about others. but also do this alot everywhere else. Since when was it okay to speak ill about your neighbors? Spead rumors, gossip lies. It says to love your neighbor not gossip about them. Where do you all draw the line??
Also, why do hold more revelence to the virgin mary instead of God and Jesus?
The Bible states that Jesus says; No man cometh unto the Father but by me. It doesn't say anything about Mary. I ask this cause when I walk into a RCs house, pictures of Mary are everywhere, along with her statues, even in churches. Isn't that a form of idolatry?
Yes, Jesus made the wine for the wedding feast. But HE DIDN'T say, guzzle it as much as you can, whenever you can and wish. It is permissable to have one ocassionly with a meal, NOT whenever life has you feeling blue or when you want to have some fun. Life is serious. Be grateful for it, act like it by living your life by living right according to Gods laws not mans, aka priests.
And for those of you saying this, who do you think you are serving? By saying things like that?
I would think you could atleast have more respect. It is Gods son that you speak of. You can only serve one or the other. Make your choice wisely.
Thank you.
One more detail.
When Jesus says, Father- he means GOD, not your churches priest.
GOD is the father. You are supposed to confess you sins to God alone and not the priest. Can your priests save you come judgement day?
I don't know why your priests call themselves that. Are they trying to take God's place among you???
Correction; You can only serve one. You cannot have two masters.
That would between GOD
and the devil.
Make your choice wisely, cause if you don't, then it is automatic- if your life is NOT right according to GODs laws.
Thanks for answering/editing.
And yes, I agree. Although I DID NOT say for them to stay away from church. I am just voicing my opinions on how they should be old enough to know something like that on their own. What is wrong here? Maybe it's just the town I live in. *shrugs shoulders* I am clearly astonished of what I see. Don't get me wrong, some are nice but some of them are...just bad. I don't like to judge so that's why I came on here for answers to my questions. It's painful to see the damage, alcohol, cigarettes, gambling and gossiping does. I just wish ppl would wake up and realize that. I seen a RC die last year from lung cancer, along list of fatalities in the same family, and I just wonder to myself; what does the priest tell them of where they are going, I wonder? And wonder still today, of where their souls are today? I'm not saying all this to hatred of RCs but of compassion and love for my fellow man. Are they going to where they think they are going? Are they at peace?
And then to have the priest go and say that it is okay to do all these things "in moderation." What good will it do for ME to say it's wrong If I'm up against the priest saying it's ALLOWED? I know it's "free will" and all, but would it be safe to say then that the priest has a lot of blood on his hands? For all those souls that have perished under his "advisory?" Or would the church take full acountability? Who will answer to God when that time comes?
That is why it IS a sin in Gods eyes cause these things can kill. Killing is a sin. This is also why I say; " Where do you draw a line? Either it IS a sin or it is NOT? Either it is acceptable or it is not? I have some of you answering it is allowed, smoking is not a sin, gambling is not a sin? And then some of you are say it is a sin. Where is the line? Do you even know where that line is? It sounds like to me that they are some undefined "rules" or cracks in your religion. Which is it? This is percisely what accounts of my confusion.

They don't have compromise with God, neither with his word neither with men's soul neither with their own soul. Be a non-calvinist protestant. Look for a pentecostal or baptist church.
PD: Protestant didn't remove 7 book from the old testament. Catholic church did put it about 1500 a.C, 2000 years after the judaic canon was already closed by Esdras and other prophets of Israel. These books exist only in the catholic bible. they did put it to justify sins like praying to people who already died, salvation through works, etc... all heresies that the catholic church was having many difficulties to support without those 7 non-canonic books.

The short answer is that Catholicism is a religion that respects free will. The Catholic Church provides guidelines, and it's up to each of us to follow those. We aren't policed by our pastors.
We have guidelines that say we ought not swear, get drunk, use our money foolishly (gamble), etc. We also have guidelines about feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, sheltering the homeless, visiting the imprisoned, etc. We each determine how we follow these guidelines.
The Catholic Church is a "hospital for sinners" in a true sense. We don't demand that people become perfect before they show up. We all struggle with sin -- sometimes one person's sin is more obvious than another's, but we Catholics try to "keep our eyes on our own paper" because we each have enough on our plates without nosing into other people's business.
If you know a lot of Catholics with bad habits, it would be polite to either help them or ignore the bad stuff. But you should also know there are many, many, MANY Catholics who don't swear or smoke or gamble or drink. It just depends on the individual. We're not all identica -- we're our own selves.
Also, the Bible doesn't address smoking at all -- if yours does, some modern person slipped it in.
EDITED TO ADD:
Please listen. You don't seem to be reading my answer carefully.
The Church DOES have rules about not being drunk and not being foolish with one's money and not swearing and even about keeping one's body healthy, which would apply to smoking. Gossip *is* a sin for Catholics. And on and on and on.
You're looking at a handful of Catholics who have bad habits. You can find handfuls of ANY type of Christian that has bad habits. SO WHAT? The Catholic Church DOES NOT tell people to gamble or smoke or get drunk or swear or whatever sin you what to talk about. The fact that SOME Catholics do not obey the rules doesn't mean the rules don't exist.
Furthermore, Catholics DO NOT give more reverence to Mary than to Christ. Mary is nothing without Jesus and any Catholic will tell you that. Mary is human, not divine, and any Catholic will tell you that, too.
Also, Paul refers to himself as Timothy's spiritual father in the Scriptures. Are you saying that Paul was sinning and that Scripture has an error? No, I didn't think so.
God is our Father -- Catholics pray, "Our Father, who art in heaven" all the time. A priest is not God or equal to God, but the priest's role is to be a sort of spiritual father, guiding us and helping us along like our biological dads are supposed to.

Swearing is a sin. You can't MAKE someone in your church NOT wear, but it is a sin and they should know that, because the church teaches that.
Gambling is a sin if you are addicted to it. Any addiction is a sin.
That includes smoking. Smoking is not a sin if you smoke ONE cigar and quit. The problem with smoking is that it is addictive for most people, and the addiction is the sin though is it a grave sin? Is a smoker going to burn in hell for all eternity? I don't think so.
As for alcohol: Drinking alcohol in itself is NOT a sin. Addiction to alcohol IS a sin.
Why is the act of consuming something NOT a sin, but the addiction is?
"It is not what enters into the mouth that defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man." - Matthew 15:11
- and-
"Do not love the world or the things of the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." - 1 John 2:15 (if you are addicted to something then you have a love for that 'thing', and this is actually a form if idolatry, which is why Jesus says that you do not have the Father in you if you are suffering from an addiction, because....
"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other..." - Matthew 6:24
- EDIT -
"I stay away from my church cos I am a sinner." - that is exactly why you are supposed to go to church, because you are a sinner
"But go and learn what this means: 'I DESIRE COMPASSION, AND NOT SACRIFICE,' for I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners." - Matthew 9:13
If you are waiting until you are perfect to go to church, then you will never go to church the rest of your life.

Smoking and using the Lord's Name in vain are not allowed.
Gambling and alcohol consumption are not immoral so long as they are done in moderation.
<<And yet, RC followers go to church every sunday yet do these things as hobbies and extra circular activities every day.>>
Well, if all these Catholics are the bad sinners you think they are, why do you object to them going to Church regularly - as that is exactly what they need!
The problem here is that you seem to think the Church is supposed to be some kind of house of saints, when in fact the Church is a Hospital for Sinners.
<<I'm puzzled, so can someone, preferably in the Rc faith answer me.

You are indeed puzzled when it comes to Catholicism. I'm sorry but there's really nothing anyone can say that will clarify it for you.

Because humans are not perfect.
Why do you expect us to be?
Drinking is allowed, Jesus turned water into wine, but we are not to be drunkards.
Where in the bible or in tradition is gambling wrong? Again, we should not gamble with money that we need.
Also, the Priest does not have the power to go into homes and chastise every person in the Parish.
The Catholic Church does not allow any sin, but it also knows we need redemption.
What you have is a complex against Catholics. You don't understand our faith so you find some bad examples of people doing things they should not be doing and asking why the Church allows it.

Other than taking the Lord's name in vain, none of those other things are sinful. If a person gambles away the rent, that's a sin. If a person goes to bingo one night a month and spend a little, there is no sin.
If a person is a drunk that's a sin. If a person has a drink here and there but is not drunk, that is no sin.
Smoking is not a sin.

Roman Catholics or its followers are christians because they also believed in Jesus Christ as their messiah. Protestant who claim as christians does not differ to the Roman Catholics, its only a matter of the teaching which they follow.
- tebone0315Lv 71 decade ago
Our bible is different because Protestants removed 7 books. I dont drink or gamble or swear. I do smoke, nothing in the bible that says smoking is a sin. What you really are trying to do is bash Catholic Christians when you know full well there are many in the protestant churches that do the same exact thing
- The EmperorLv 61 decade ago
Not allowed to swear
Smoking is stoopid and you can kill yourself if you want, I won't stop you.
Gambling is fine if you don't spend what you don't have or neglect your financial responsibilities.
As for booze, what was Jesus' first miracle?
And we also primarily use the KJV bible our selves, we only refer to 'our Bible' (aka, the original) for matters concerning doctrine.
BTW, 'Roman' Catholics aren't a separate faith. Roman is a rite within the Catholic church. Just use Google for more info on this.

How is your Bible more correct than theirs?
When did Jesus say that an English guy centuries after his death was going to be given magical powers of interpretation?
