What would you do if the sun was going to be blocked out for two years?

How would you provide for food? Water? etc?

Assume you had a month to prepare.

Hijack a nuclear powered submarine... it's the only place you'd be safe.

You couldn't do anything to prepare.

In those 2 years, all plant life on Earth would die therefore eventually all herbivorous animals on Earth would die which would have a cataclysmic effect on ecosystems and probably result in the slow decline of all the carnivores as they ran out of food too. That means us aswell, water won't be affected atall but in those 2 years I'd say we would be well into canibalism as a result of being one of the only remaining species on Earth (everything else would have starved).

That's what would happen assuming the temperatures stayed the same, which ofcourse they wouldn't. The entire Earth would slowly start to freeze over and any plants that somehow survived the lack of sunlight would die from the cold temperatures, as would any remaining animals. 2 years would probably be long enough for all of life on Earth to die.

On the plus side, skin cancer rates would plummet although the sun cream industry would hit an all time low.

if its blocked out by the moon, or a moon-sized rock then only a small part of the planet would be dark - so food would still come from the supermarket.

any bigger than this, we have enough coal, oil, gas to provide electricity to power hydroponics for two years - so i think food would still be produced, you just have to pay more for it. either that or invest into a lamp yourself and grow your own. last idea: with a month to prepare - spend all your money and buy enough canned food - and tea - and powdered milk - to last!

There's no way you could suvive by yourself. The temperature would be minus 100 degrees every day. Eventually the air supply would get low. You would need a team of people burning wood constantly for heat, electricity generators for light to grow enough plants to eat and also create oxygen. It's possible to store up enough food but water would need to be recycled which could be done in the process of heating and cooking. You would need a lot of open space. I would probably get my family and move to the center of the country and try to find a shelter to join or create one.

well first of all, why would you be worrying about this?

second of all you would need to get a lot of sources for food

such as plants, seeds, fresh water, canned foods anything

you can find as well as EXTRA warm clothes and what not.

Also preferably live somewhere near the mountains where you could

have a fresh source of water everyday and have a lot of books on how

to craft things and everything. Be sure to have sources of electricity

that can generate light very easily. hope that helps.
