How do I prevent my dog from getting ticks?

My dog consistantly gets ticks. She is on frontline, but she still gets about a tick a day. I'm not sure what to do. I live in Viriginia so there are a lot of ticks around this time of year. She doesn't get to run around in the woods or anything.

What do you suggest?

If you have no cats the best protection against ticks is a Preventic collar.

The Preventic collar actually repels ticks so they will not stay on your dog.

A Preventic collar can only be obtained through a vet.

With Frontline the tick must attach to the animal.

Once it does the chemicals that are in the sebacous gland will kill the tick before infectious diseases can be transmitted.

    Advantix repels ticks.

If you find a tick on the dog and you are using Advantix its not working.

Unfortunately if you have a cat you can not use Advantix on your dog

Many clients return to frontline and Preventic collar for tick protection as they don't find Advantix to be effective for 4 weeks as it advertises.

No matter which brand of protection you choose you still must check you dog daily for ticks and remove them.

Due to the increased risk of tick borne disease in your area I would vaccinate against Lyme (merial vaccine)

You want all the prevention possible as lyme, anaplasmosis, erhlicia, rocky mountain spotted fever can cause serious illness in a dog.

If you do not have a cat and no small children who will play with the collar while on the dogs neck certainly try the Preventic collar.

Many hunters use it in conjunction with frontline for the ultimate protection against fleas and ticks.

There are lots of goods to aid with fleas and ticks to your puppy. It's a question of ways a lot you wish to spend and what works for the puppy. One dwelling alleviation is somewhat garlic on occasion for your puppy's meals. Fleas and ticks do not just like the style. The excellent means to take away them is to coat them in vaseline, or hair spray. Something that's sticky. As bugs breathe via their exoskeleton, the vaseline clogs up their respiring and so they suffocate and fall off on their possess. It takes a couple of mins so be sufferer. Do no longer pul them off as they will depart the top within the puppy which will then come to be inflamed. By the best way, ticks don't "re-develop",( wherein do you humans arise with this suggestions!), when you pull aspect of it off!. It will die but when left within the puppy would create an contamination! Good success!
