How can I trace my dog's pedigree?
Hi guys.
We adopted our lovely Saint Bernard aged 8 weeks old from a breeder we heard of through another Saint owner.
We went and visited the home, saw both parents, the health scoring certificates and agreed to buy a puppy. We picked up Mike a few days later with the promise the papers would be posted to us as she was waiting on other info before doing this (I know!). After 6 weeks we still had not heard and so tried to contact the breeder, needless to say he had disappeared!
I have five generation pedigree certificates for both parents (IMP THA) from the Kennel Club but obviously not for Mike. We do NOT want to breed from him (he is neutered), we cannot show him for this and health reasons he is just a well loved family pet.
I am just intrigued, any ideas?!
Thanks Walking Lady - just realised my qu is not overly clear!!
Am looking to check if my dog has been registered and if so obtain a copy of his pedigree certificate with him on it!

If you have five generations on each of the parents, you have enough to go on the internet and look up the show results for them. Or you could use the kennel name of the parents of your dog's parents to contact them and ask for anything you might want to know. Not sure what you are wanting here.
ADDED: Ah! Now I understand. If the pedigree lists the registration numbers, call the KC and ask if the litter has been registered and ask what they can do to help. As far as a pedigree, pedigree services can often make you a nice one. It won't be the same as the KC pedigree, but it will be accurate and nice looking.

I'd suggest two things - go back, physically, to the place you bought your puppy (did you pay full price for a registered puppy?) and see this breeder, and secondly, contact the Kennel Club for your country. If you have the registration numbers for his sire and dam, it shouldn't be difficult to at least find out whether the litter was ever registered.
If you paid top price (registered puppy) for this lad, I'd be telling the KC exactly what has happened here!! And yes, the normal procedure is for the individual registration document for each puppy to be signed over by the breeder, as he will still be registered in his name. Then you add your details on the transfer of ownership section, pay the fee, and mail it off. At 8 weeks, it's possible that the papers are not back from the KC (especially if the litter wasn't registered soon after they arrived - some Breeders do wait, just in case they don't all survive the first few weeks), although these days (UK?) the turn around is quite quick, unless there's some problem, perhaps with the names the Breeder has chosen.

If you know the names of the parents and/or have their registration numbers you can contact the AKC and they can provide you with a pedigree and find out if the litter Mike was in was registered or not.
Did you get your puppy with a written contract? If you didn't, you probably got scammed somehow. That doesn't change that you have a puppy you love, but I hate seeing people taken in by the sleazeballs that do that kind of thing. You really have to check breeders out before you buy.

If you have his parents pedigree, then it is easy to check with your kennel Club to see if the litter was registered.
However, 'if' the litter was registered by the 'breeder', he would need to sign it and send it on to you to sign and register the dog in your name as the owner, other wise the registration will still be in his name....'if' he registered the litter at all
Did you sign the registration forms when you picked him up to register him in your name?
Contact your kennel club and ask if any litter registration was sent to them by this 'breeder' and if your dog was was sold as Kennel Club registered then report it to the KC, however if he was sold as 'pedigree' that's different, as he may well be a pedigree dog which has not been registered.

If you have both parents pedigree certificates, it should be enough information that you need. What you are missing is the registration for your dog. But since you are not going to show him there is no use for a pedigree.

I'm afraid I don't understand. If you have a 5-generation pedigree of both parents, you have your dog's pedigree.
