What if an American was captured by Iraqis and waterboarded?
In exactly the same manner that conservatives insist is no big deal.
Would the American right casually accept it?
Ah, look at the little conservatives dodge the question.
Not one of them is actually willing to answer whether or not they'd consider waterboarding an American to be tortured.
List of terrorist rights?
People SUSPECTED of terrorism have the right not to be tortured.
As I suspected.... not ONE conservative was willing to answer the question. Not one, they just dodged with "but they do worse!"

Of course cons dodged the question.
Even in their evil little conservative "torture-is-good-and waterboarding-isn't-torture" hearts, most of them (some there is just no hope for) know they are morally and legally wrong. They are simply painfully painted into an awkward corner by the atrocious past actions of their bad leaders - namely, Bush and Cheney.
But, here is the good news.
Those sadistic few that are for torture or those that dance the question by saying that waterboarding isn't torture at all are IN THE MINORITY in America. We really don't have to pay much attention to them in the debate. There aren't that many of them. Sadism just isn't that popular.
Thank God that by far, the American people have rejected those far-right nut-job positions and have shown once again that they are a decent people with genuine feelings for other human beings - even if they are the worst of terrorists like KSM.
Thank God.
Edit: to answer Vinnie_says_relaxes question:
"Terrorists" have all the rights in Constitution that you do. The Supreme Court has held in many decisions that the US Constitution applies to "persons" - not just citizens. That include you (assuming that you are a citizen) and every last terrorist. How do you like them apples?
Of course you would probably know that if you knew what you were talking about.

NO,Talk about spin-we didn't capture Iraqis they are terrorist why is that so hard for you to understand. They succeeded in killing thousands of innocent Americans,The ones captured were involved or involved in planning more attacks .I'd take water boarding any day over being burned up in a fiery crash, have a building crush me to death or suffocating trapped under debris -do you even care about the Americans who suffered or are now suffering debilitating lung conditions from helping with the rescue at the twin towers NOW that's what I call torture ! Did any of them have any rights ?they were under no suspicions of anything just going to work.

That's not the same situation. No one's saying waterboard every prisoner of every type. It's only for terrorists. Rules of war exist to protect those not involved with the conflict by requiring combatants to clearly identify themselves as participating in the conflict. Terrorists don't do this and therefore put innocent people in danger on a regular basis. Why should they deserve equal treatment?

Well the neo cons paid (with tax money) for mercenaries. Normally they are supposed to have the toughest part of the job.
So if an American soldier was to be waterboarded he would be a mercenary and when you pay a brainless monkey a fortune just to carry a gun you expect him to take the beating and keep his mouth shut.
So if mercenaries are to be waterboarded it is no big deal nobody will cry about it, it is just part of the job.

Get real!! No one has EVER said that waterboarding is "fun!" But it isn't torture. If one of our GIs was waterboarded, the protest would be proportional to what was being done to them. It would be over them being held at all. In the long-run if all that happened to them was waterboarding, we'd be thankful.

The Six Articles of The Code of Conduct
I am an American, fighting in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense.
I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command, I will never
surrender the members of my command while they still have the means to resist.
If I am captured, I will continue to resist by all means available. I will
make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy.
If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners.
I will give no information or take part in any action which might be
harmful to my comrades. If I am senior, I will take command. If not, I will
obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me, and will back them up in every way.
When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am required to give only my name, rank, service number, and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability. I will make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country and its allies or harmful to their cause.
I will never forget that I am an American, fighting for freedom,
responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.

Um. How about the video released a couple of years ago of al qaeda beheading two American soldiers? Or the beheading of Daniel Pearl? Roadside bombs killing and ripping the limbs off troops and innocents. Is this permissible under the Geneva convention?

I think it would be a huge step up from having their heads slowly sawed off..
And still no, waterboarding does not meet the criteria for torture.
- amazin'gLv 71 decade ago
Yes. The majority of Americans accepted the beheading of American citizens, why get hot and bothered about that?? Hey libs, where was your outrage about true torture - beheading? Huh?
And since you aren't intuitive enough to see I answered your silly question, here it is in plain English that even a lib can understand:
HERE'S YOUR ANSWER: WATERBOARDING IS NOT TORTURE. BEHEADING, IS.
