How should we deal with racist, sexist or homophobic trolls?
I am not referring to the questions that intelligently discuss issues surrounding race, gender and homosexuality, I am referring to the questions which spout hatred, ignorance and bigotry (there have been a lot recently on this section).
Initially I used to answer these questions hoping that some element intelligence, reason and logic would get through to these people. However now I think that it would be best to ignore these people all together.
Do you think if all reasonable-minded people on this site ignored the trolls they would get bored and go away?

I say ignore them. I don't really have the time nor the patience to deal with hate that is spouted from someone from the other end of the internet. There is really no use in fighting back, really. :/
I'm with Jack on this one as well. Being black and gay myself, I find it hard to get offended by the racist/homophobic comments because I can really sense when a person is only trying to be funny/is bored. I usually just ignore everything unless something really catches my eye and I can't help but laugh.

I think some of them are trying to beat their personal records for having an account suspended by Y!A.
Unless their rant is exceptionally despicable, or threatens violence, I usually ignore them. In the first two cases, I report them.

More than likely, the trolls, when not fed by us, will forage for attention elsewhere.
Sometimes this is easier said than done, but I know that behavior ignored will generally cease existence.

yeah im a gay black american and these trolls are something they can only spew their hatred safely tucked behind their little computers but thats expected right. a true man or woman stands behind whatever they say and will do so at anytime and in anyplace and we all know theyre only brave enough to do it on Y!A I SMELL SNIFF SNIFF RACIST COWARDS! THESE ARE THE WORST KINDS THE ONES WHO HIDE THEIR RACISM AND VENT ONLINE LMAO!

Well some of them are funny. I'm gay and I think Tara J is hilarious! It would be best though to just ignore them if you don't like them. They feed off of comments from people about them, and they love getting thumbed down. So yes, if everyone ignored them, they would go away. I think most of them are just trying to be funny though. They aren't really prejiduced.

For the most part I ignore them, unless they say something so ignorant that it's funny.
