African Cichlids and friends with cloudy eyes. Help!?
Hi all.
I got home this afternoon to discover that my Clown Loach, Bristlenose and Demasoni with the classic cloudy eye bubble over their eyes. It also looks like it is has just started on my Acei. The Demasoni has it over both eyes poor bugger.
I have had all these fish in my tank for years so it is baffling to me how this started.
I did buy some new African attack pellets last week and noticed that they dirty the water when I use them.
Also I did leave the water change a bit later, four weeks.
Could these be some of the causes or would it be something else?
What's the best way to fix my problem?
Any info would be great.
Thank you
Shawn

Improving the water quality is always a good thing to do, even if you don't have a pathogen in the tank really so you can't go wrong doing that. Bad water quality, be it, too low in electrolytes, improper redox balance, too high in nitrogen compounds, not enough O2 flow etc...are all things with bad water quality that basically open the door for a pathogen to take foot in the tank. You'll have to fix the water quality to get rid of the pathogen.
Which type of pathogen causing the cloudy eye is a bit tricky to narrow down, however I think if you read over these clippings, this should help you determine which is infecting your fish and get a good treatment option.

Smaller aquariums are harder to maintain a balance ph level. I never add chemicals to my water. I will test it with test strips and do a water change if anything is off. I only use a conditioner. How many fish do you have in this one tank? And also the amount of uneaten food will turn a tank cloudy. Just do a water change every week until it is not cloudy. Good Luck!

Did your water get cold? This can trigger a disease outbreak. I'm not completley sure of the cause but I'm almost certain your fish have eye fungus. If you haven't already, do a water change. Then add a good fungus eliminator medication. Then raise the water temperature to about 90 degrees. Just make sure you add extra air from an air pump since the higher temp will contain less dissolved oxygen.

Cloudy eyes are primarily caused by water quality, test your water. If you're only doing monthly maintenance I would bet my money that's the issue right there! Test the water, do a partial water change, and additional of anti-bacterial medication may also help.
