    44 = 2(4x) + 2(x + 7)

    44 = 8x + 2x +14

    30 = 8x + 2x

    30 = 10x

    3 = x

    The formula for perimeter is twice the length added to twice the width.

    Let 4x the the length and x+7 the width.

    P = 2 (4x) + 2 (x+7)

    44=2 (4x) + 2 (x+7)

    use distribution to remove parenthesis

    44=8x + 2x +14

    group same terms together

    44 - 14 = 10x

    30=10x

    divide by 10 to have x

    x=3

    Perimeter = 2(4x) + 2(x+7) = 10x + 14 = 44 --->x = 3

    2(4x) + 2(x + 7) = 44

    4x + x + 7 = 22

    5x = 15

    x = 3
