Keyless Entry/Alarm Problem - 98 Deville?

I'm having trouble with the keyless entry and alarm in my 98 Cadillac Deville. Neither of the two remotes will unlock the doors - it started with one, and three days later the second remote stopped working.

I've found a good amount of information on the above, except it's all inconsistent with the fact that the alarm goes off (as in starts to sound) when I start the car, not vice versa.

So in short, when I use the key to open the door - which is the only way to unlock it - and then start the car, the alarm starts sounding. It generally does not stop when the car is put into gear or after any amount of time. Today it stopped after a few minutes, but started again when I opened the door to get out.

I really love this car, and it only has 50k miles on it. I hope it's nothing serious.

Update:

Well gee, that wasn't very helpful.

I'll expand by saying that we bought this car used as a 'beater' two weeks ago. So no - I haven't gotten a dime out of it yet. BUT it hasn't passed inspection yet either so by State law, the dealer has to take it back if it fails. If this is a minor problem, I'll fix it and get on with it. If it's serious, I'll let it fail inspection after the plates come in and march it right back where it came from. BUT I know from 2 months of shopping that I can't get another car with 50k miles for the same price that isn't a Kia or matchbox.

it's not the car, it's the alarm. have u checked the batteries of the remotes? if u haven't then get far from the car and change the battery, i don't like to change batteries close to the car because it can get deprogrammed. which brings me to the next thing, it could be that the control deprogrammed itself.

the reason the alarm goes off when you open doors or/and start the car is that the alarm is working and it needs the control to turn them off.

i suggest taking it to best buy or any alarm repair shops in your area. but be careful because some people will want to over charge for the simplest thing.

my brother had that problem once and he would be driving and the alarm would still be sounding, looked weird.

oh and another thing, i was surprised that it even turned on at all as some alrams have a killswitch that dissbles the car from being turned on when the alarm is still on.

if you bought the alarm yourself and it hasnt been that long i suggest you call them and they could tell you teh code to program it again. it s a combinatio of the buttons it's nothing magical but you still have to know it. :) good luck
