    3/4 - 1/6

    = (3 x 3)/(3 x 4) - (1 x 2)/(6 x 2)

    = 9/12 - 2/12

    = 7/12

First you find what 6 and 4 both go into which in this case is 24

Then you times both the numerator and the denominator of 3/4 by 6 which is 18/24 and times both the numerator and denominator of 1/6 by four which is 4/24 this mean the actual subtraction is

18/24-4/24 which is 14/24 you can then simplify this answer to 7/12

    Hope this helps x

when adding and subtracting fractions, you must make the denominators the same

to do this you find the lowest common multiple

in this case the lcm of 4 and 6 is 12

to get this you would have to multiply 4 by 3 and 6 by 2

what you do to the bottom, you do to the top

so you have to multiply 3 by 3 and 1 by 2 and therefore you get

    9/12 - 2/12

now all you do is subtract the numerators

    9 - 2 = 7

    so the answer is 7/12

turn the denomenator (bottom number) to the same.

multiply the 2 bottom numbers to find a number that both will go into.

    4 x 6 = 24

youve always got to do to the top number, what you did to the bottom number.

    to get 24 from 4, we multiplyed by 6. so multiply 3 by 6 = 18/24

    to get 24 from 6, we multiplyed by 4. so multiply 1 by 4 = 4/24

then take the top numbers away, but keep the bottom number the same.

    = 14/24

which can be cancelled down to 7/12

    3/4 - 1/6

Get a common denominator first. The least common multiple of 4 and 6 is 12.

    (3*3/4*3) - (1*2/6*2)

    (9/12) - (2/12)

    (9-2)/12

    7/12

you have to make the denominators the same so...

    3/4 - 1/6

    = 18/24 - 4/24

    = 14/24

    3/4 - 1/6

    3*6/4*6 - 1*4/6*4

    18/24-4/24

    14/24

    7/12

just take the L.C.M of denominators i.e. 4 & 6 then solve it
