Christians, do you think " UNITY" in the Body of Christ can be achieved?
...through compromise and negotiations or " unity" is received via the FINISHED work of the Cross Just like, any other redemtion
( ex, forgivness of Sin, Healing, etc)?
"For he is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of partition between us"
(Ephesians 2:14)
"Unity in His body can never be forced through compromise or negotiations. Unity is received just like healing or any other aspect of redemption; it is the realizing of something that has already happened when God reconciled the world to Himself in Christ. This happened while we were still hostile and full of sin. God brought an end to hostility, distance, division, sin and disease. The truth and power of the Gospel always reveals something that has already happened in the spirit. This Gospel is announced with conviction and bold confidence. “We are not ashamed of the Gospel, it is the power of God unto salvation, for therein is the rigorousness of God revealed, from faith to faith”. Rom.1:16,17. “Having this ministry by the mercy of God we do not lose heart, we refuse to compromise the content of the Gospel because of what we see in the natural. We look not at what is seen but we see the unseen! We have the same spirit of faith as he had who wrote, “I believe and so I speak,” we too believe and so we speak!” 2Cor.4:1,2,13,18."

Neat, Grace - so glad that I've added you as a connection, and vice versa!
In Christ the reality is that we are united already - what God has brought together let not man put asunder! But, we have in so many ways....
The early church ask that "If the Body of Christ is not united, will the will of God be done on earth?" So, they thought that the church had to incarnate the unity that was spiritually reality --> for them, observable reality had to witness to the spiritual reality; i.e. there was no difference between incarnational witness & spiritual reality (the difference is introduced with the Greek philosophy of dualism....)
So, your du Toit quote is salient for this point - we enter into Christ with our brokenness and, in His presence, find healing, find our telos (purpose), our destiny in Christ with the sin that so easily entangles us in its chains miraculously broken. Then, with His humility (Phil 2), we are enabled to live at peace with one another - not a human peace that results in one dominating another, but the peace, the shalom of God that allows the lion to lie down with the lamb....

Body of Christ is the key phrase here . I think the body of Christ is in unity about who we believe in . But even Paul and Barnabas had a dispute concerning Mark . Barnabas parted ways with Paul, taking Mark with him. But as you read on, the conclusion to the dispute is that God was glorified . It worked out .
Then there is the bible interpretation factor, which isn't interpreted the same by all because of different levels of growth . The bible is illuminated by the Holy Spirit . The less of the flesh, the more of the Spirit .
Have you ever been to a bible study where there is one woman just trying to talk over the Teacher all the time to show what she knows ? I believe that that woman has a calling to be a Teacher( sometimes not) , but she needs to humbly be quiet until God moves in her life . Her flesh is getting in the way . You can see a total disunity in that situation . And often what that type of impatience causes is that her words fall to the ground . You can almost hear the Iron hitting Iron . :o) .. Which sharpens both blades . So that is my take on unity. I don't believe it is possible until Heaven .

We are to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:3). We are united in the Spirit in Christ having been jusified by faith we have peace with God through out Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1). All the disunity and differences that come about are the works of the flesh. When we all are led by the Spirit in all that we do the in name of Jesus Christ we will have unity in the Spirit in the body of Christ. In the flesh unity is impossible but unity is in the Spirit if we live by the Spirit. God bless you sister Grace.

You're talking about the invisible unity of the church. This is indeed a reality as all Christians are partakers of the Body of Christ.
The visible unity of the church is also something to be ardently worked towards and prayed for, however. It is a shame and a poor witness to the world that we Christians are divided.
Yes, there need to be negotiations. Christians of all stripes need to talk to each other, understand each other, learn from one another, and see how we can work together. This does not not imply compromising on doctrine.
But anyone who spends time in the R&S section of Yahoo! Answers can surely see how much Christians need a better understanding and appreciation of one another!

man tried that and it became organized religion. that is not the way God intended the body to be. the body is what it is, we can't unify it the way we see fit because our definition of unity is everyone in unison. God's definition of a body is the arm performs this task while the mouth teaches this word while the feet take these steps in that direction guided by the eyes. in our differences we are unified, that is the only true thing you can say about us collectively. as it is said, better to be divided in truth than united in error. Jesus left the earth in His body, we became adopted through the Spirit and therefore we become His body on earth. but the body won't be perfected and redeemed until He returns. until then we are united in our faith but separated across the world facing temptation and trials.

Say, believe, and practice "not my will, but yours (Jesus') be done." Listen and be aware of the Holy Spirit's direction in your every day life. Be ready to obey when asked. Love others. Be a promise keeper. Be kind. Be ready to give others an answer about why you believe in Jesus. Be responsible for your own actions.

Even wisdom without understanding leaves one with a lack of knowledge. The Word, says; " Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get UNDERSTANDING.
When all the Christian denominations get an understanding of the full Gospel; all will speak, act and abide in one accord...Though we are many members we are members of one body...

YAHOSHUA came not to bring peace, but a sword, dividing truth from error. Since most people cling to error, they will be burned with it in the end, when sin and sinners are destroyed in the lake of fire so YAHOSHUA can make all things new, and very good.

"Christians, do you think " UNITY" in the Body of Christ can be achieved?"
Only when He comes back. Until He comes there will always be terrs among the wheat. The first ones were Ananias and Sephira.

Not only can it be achieved, it should be the ultimate goal.
