Were would I learn how to weld motorcycle frames?
I want to build my own custom motorcycle because I don't like any of the ones on the market. There is a general welding program at the nearby jr college but I don't want to wait for the fall semester and i don't want to waste time learning welding skills that don't relate to building motorcycle frames. I live in San Jose CA if you know of something close.

The welders have spoken! Welding is an art and not everyone has the talent. Take the course and find out if have it. You may want to consider designing a frame [after you study things like rake / trail / steel types / suspension 101] and taking it to a competent welder.

I am a welder by trade, and it is not a over night thing, especially not welding tubs.I is a hands on got to do it process. It takes time to learn what the molten metal looks like and how to make it like that. It takes time to run it strait and steady. There is many good books that can give you the knowledge but u have to do it.
You don't want to put a weld down and look good but as soon as ut gets a stress for riding a cross tracks it breaks in the road.take the class or talk to the local custom shops to see if some one will build what you want or knows some one that dose.
Welding is welding. You will need to start out on plate (strait lines) before u can weld around tubes/pipe. Mig and Tig is what most use to weld on cars as more control on the heat.

The welder has it spot on (so to speak). I'm not familiar with san jose, but there's got to be a community college there. I took welding as a part of my a/c degree. I am not going to make a living at it but if I have to fabricate a structure to put a heavy condenser unit on in the air I can do that for it to be safe and sound. That being said, you could, if you hurry get in the summer semester and get some good skills on SMAW, .. In the fall you may want to expand your knowledge in to GMAW in order to be able to do those bike frames and know their structurally sound and most importantly: safe. Get the skills and the sky's the limit on your earning potential. Just like with a/c, you'll NEVER be out of a job..Go for it dude. Take care, Ride safe.

As other welders have spoken, I won't beat it to death.
I also believe any skill learned is not a waste of time.
Molitor brings up a very good point - there is much more to a simple frame than just putting some tubing together. Rake and trail are so important that some states limit the measurements to ensure a road-safe ride.

Welding class. There is more to building a frame than sticking a couple of pipes together.
