I'm opinionated, no doubt. I'm also open-minded, for the most part. I ride. Almost anything. Yes, it's an HD. There have been others. I like to help when I can. I have a thick hide, crap doesn't bother me. I have been known to respond, however. Like a kid poking something with a sharp stick. I usually (but not always) sign off with: "Live Free Or Die" My home state's motto, which I feel reflects my own attitude quite well. When you get around to calling me an Asshole, it's ok - just remember the capital A. I am what I am what I am. -Popeye "Roadkill gravy tastes better with a little salt." -BoomBoom

  • Suspension replacement?

I've got a 95 F-150 with a broken rear leaf, and a bad shock tower on the same side. It also need shocks.

Since I always do the opposite side whenever I do this kind of work, I'll be changing out both rears.

My real question relates to the front. I'd change out the radius arm bushings when I do the shock towers.

Just starting to look into this, I had an idea: If I'm going to do all this, why not convert the front to leaf spring? If the frames are the same as a 250, it shouldn't be a problem. Aside from a little more expense, I don't see why not. Any input would be appreciated.

  • Ever been happy about a shop screw-up?

Firstly, it's party my fault. Good communication requires both parties to be clear.

The shop was busy when I stopped in to make my appointment. I wasn't the only one talking.

When I arranged to have my tires changed and/for a State inspection, I asked for the original style Dunflops (K591s). That was a Monday. I dropped the bike off on Tues. and picked it up on Fri.

When I got there, I wound up saying "Those aren't the tires I asked for".

He said he didn't remember what I asked for and it had Metzlers (ME880s) on it when he rolled it in, so he put Metzlers on it. He also said "I'll change them out for you." My reply was "He ll no, I'm riding it out of here." (I had to go to work, and wasn't about to wait - it was also said in a nice tone, he knew what I meant). I wound up with an ME888 Marathon Ultra up front and a Z6 steel radial in back.

First time with a radial tire......and I'm very pleased with it. Sticks well and the bumps....well, they just don't feel as bumpy.

  • Is there any benefit to the "upgrade" ?

The back story: I don't frequent HD forums on the web. Once again, I find a problem with my '06 Dyna. A quick Google of "06 Dyna stator" returned huge amounts of hits at all the HD forums. Seems the rotors are poorly designed and come apart with disastrous results. The repair kit from HD is in it's second generation (the -06B in the part # tells). It consists of an '07 rotor and stator.

$285.99 and a 7-10 day lead time (as usual, it must be ordered - stuff I need is never in stock).

Since my rotor wasn't badly damaged, I've put it together better than it was originally built. New screws and fully TIG welded. A stator is on order from J&P ($60.99 plus shipping - and 4 days wait).

The question to satisfy my curiosity: Is there any additional benefit to the '07 parts?

    Higher output, perhaps?

  • Supertrapp 2 into 1 Supermeg?

Looking for information, tips, experiences, anecdotes - anything at all.

When I ask in "Motorcycles", my questions get ignored....like I know it all already.

So, I come to those that actually do play with this kind of stuff.

I'll be putting one on my '06 FXD, stock TC88, higher flow air filter.

I'm not souping it up, just replacing the crap that now hangs off it.

I'll even say "Please" if that'll help.

  • How to fix stuff like this?

Ignorant answers to honest questions....how do we say anything to either the asker or the one with the bad answer?

    Example: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AlU9h...

The first sentence in the first link: "Most motorcycle helmets come already painted---that's why you don't see bare metal."

I've NEVER seen a metal motorcycle helmet. The last metal pot I wore was WW2 issue.

  • My kind of gloves - where do I find them?

Searched the net to no avail...

Looking for a good, old fashioned set of gauntlet gloves - rabbit lined.

Found some lined dress gloves, found some unlined riding gloves.

Can't seem to find the combination I want.

I know there are a bunch of insulated gloves out there, but I want the old-fashioned stuff.

  • Have you made a New Year's resolution?

Why ask here? Because the people who interest me are here. I don't troll the other sections.

    Resolutions.

I don't bother with them, myself. Can't even remember the last one, let alone when it was.

Last year, I put the HD up in Dec. after riding it 3 winters straight and then being asked by my wife not to ride in the snow. It was out in Feb. (by permission - I try not to break promises) for a Funeral escort. Then, it stayed out. So far this winter, there's been about 4 days when the roads were too crappy.

Today, while at the gas station, a guy asked if anyone had taken my picture with today's date.

After I gave the puzzled look I said "No, the roads are clear."

So... It seems that made me decide to do what I like best - keep riding. I'll have to be reasonable, I suppose. Meaning no more in 6"... but I'll keep track of those days.

3 down, 362 to go. Love those re-worked gloves.

  • Could someone explain this to me, please?

This isn't meant as a helmet use/law debate question....

    I wear one, sometimes.

As I pulled into the bank parking lot on Friday afternoon, two motorcycles followed.

The riders were both dressed in the same fashion - shorts, sneakers (no socks) and full-face helmet.

No other clothing or gear, aside from a small backpack on each.

Both donned t-shirts from their packs before entering the bank.

Why would a person dress like this?

  • Helmet law details - any reliable answers?

I see it said over and again that the state of New Hampshire does not have a helmet law.

But, as far as I can tell, it was never repealed.

    It's current form: http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/rsa/html/XXI/265/2...

I cannot find the rules, specifications or list mentioned in paragraph II.

The main thrust of my question:

Where is the Federal law referred to in paragraph III to be found and when, if ever, was it changed?

This isn't meant to be a forum for debate over the use (required or not), just seeking info I can't seem to find. Yes, I've looked. Yes, I have an interest - I've been a resident since 1970.
