Contact the state wildlife department in Utah. Ask them for the hunter success rates in the area your tag is good for. This will give you a guideline on where to hunt. In my state the success rates ranged from 1 in 4 hunters killing a deer to 1 in 20 hunters that had success. You would want to hunt in the areas with the highest success rate.

Some of the best mule deer hunting is on the Utah/Arizona border. In Utah, the Pansguant and just south of there is the Arizona strip. Unfotunately It sounds like you just got a general region tag which doesn't give you access to that hunt. Where ever you go be prepared to see alot of hunting pressure.

Wherever the deer are. Find out by doing some scouting and reading the stats for the areas provided by the state. Go where the most deer are taken over a period of 5 years.
