I restored my computer and....?

Problems!

I restored my desktop due to a virus. Of course, everything is wiped out. My problems are:

1) the drivers for my video are missing so I can't change the display settings, everything is garbled and big. The color is on 4 bit

2) the drivers for my sound are missing so no sound

3) Windows doesn't see my modem, I tried to install the drivers for it but it's not being seen on any ports so it's not taking the drivers

Any help would be great. How do I find my video and sound cards to see what software or drivers I need to download

What do I do about the modem, do I just unplug it and reinstall it then try to install the drivers?

Thanks a million!

If you're able to get on the internet on that computer, .. get some anti-virus for crying out loud!*

    __ free anti-virus:

    ____ http://free.avg.com/

    ____ http://www.avast.com/

(You should only have one anti-virus program installed, and no, spybot and ad-aware are not anti-virus programs. McAfee, Norton, Kaspersky, Trend Micro, and F-Protect are all good too.)

OK once you've done that, go to the support website of your computer manufacturer.

    _ http://support.dell.com/

    _ http://support.hp.com/

    _ http://support.acer.com/

    _ http://support.gateway.com/

Enter your service tag and/or serial number for your computer and they should be able to give you a list of avaiable drivers for you. Dell is always good for that.

If you don't get any luck there, try running Windows Update.

    http://update.microsoft.com/

In addition to critical and optional updates, it may also have your driver listed as an "update" under device drivers.

As far as your Modem is concerned (dial-up modem for faxing and such), you may have to install that manually. The methods varry for different versions of Windows, but if you click on Start, then Help or Help and Support, you should be able to find instructions for installing a modem manually.

(*sorry about that Brules Rules moment there, but noone should go without anti-virus for very long.)

Source(s): Lots of experience, esp with Dell.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried to let windows find new hardware and see if it detects your hardware that way? That's the first thing I'd try before I went searching for the drivers.

Hope that helps and good luck!
